Let's talk about our edge rush

O'Donnell worked out all spring and summer with a personal trainer, busting his *** to get everything up to snuff.

Kid is bull-strong and smart.

That's a given. How he stacks up against others is yet to be determined, but his plus-es right out of the gate are looking really good. And guys - we really NEED some young stuff to explode this year.

Good to hear. And I came away from O´Donnell´s highlights thinking that his burst was his greatest asset.

Reading this thread I couldn't get one thought out of my head. WTF do we do if Chickillo gets hurt? Like others have mentioned, we REALLY need young guys to step up and develop quickly. Also, is Jelani Hamilton 100% at this point?

Rico isn't very good. Reports he may never see much on the field action.

I expect the opposite side of Chick to do well cause the offense will key on Chick more.

I will be very surprised if we can get even 3 games from Green.

Green can be a very good football player. Problem is his knees are made out of peanut brittle. Nothing has shown me that Green will be able to be healthy for an entire season.

Green has been injured every single year he has been at UM and that is a fact.

I don't even expect Green to make it out of training camp 100% as much as it pains me to say it.

I wish the kid the best but his knees were not meant for this game.

I appreciate some good old fashioned dannyboy enthusiasm, but the amount of "we can count on (insert 215 pound true freshman or returning player who has never produced anything)!" talk in this thread is making me nervous

There's about 10 guys on the team that we can't afford injuries on (Morris, Hurns, DP, Telemaque, etc) so, unfortunately, this is where the team is.

After seeing pictures and getting a few practice updates, I'm still worried but less so.

Apparently today Shayon Green had a couple of sacks so that's good to hear.

O'Donnell is up to 260 so he's physically ready to get snaps at DE.

Saw Cain fold Perry in half (that's not saying much, but it's something) so that's positive to see out of him.

Hoillett is bigger than I expected he'd be so he's ready to get snaps this season.

Also, McCord, may be the lightest of our incoming freshmen but he's probably the most talented and he showed a little bit of passion in the Oklahoma drill against Walford I think it was.

At least we won't have to rely on a single freshmen DE to make an impact. We can continually throw bodies at people.

Co-sign all of this. I know it is never good to judge on a limited sample, but I loved McCord's attitude. He got beat, but it's not like he got pile driven...and it looked like it was against Dyron Dye, who is probbaly 40-50 pounds heavier than Tyriq. He will make some noise, just probably not as an every down lineman.

Shayon Green made it through one day in pads without getting injured, so we've got that going for us.

Really, our edge rush from the hybrid end is gonna come from Green - Cain - Hoilett - McCord. There's some pretty good talent there.

thats what im saying...

A guy like Mccord and Cain are going to be RUSH ENDS when we go to our 3-4 and odd fronts. I think those guys will be cross trained at LB. In fact i would stand both guys up outside in definite pass downs and just let em go.... Mccord in my opinion will be a terror in his soph year...that kid is like a bat out of **** off the edge.

Jelani though a big recruit is still a "sleeper" to us..dude is a legit 6'4-6"5 260 with long arms....and to me he isnt close to optimal shape and weight room numbers he will get to..Jelani has technique and is a hard guy to block.

As talented as McCord is I almost wish he could shirt this year to add bulk and strength. He could be too good to keep off the field though.
