Let's hope we break out of the Nix Zone

It worked today. Great. We took what was "given." We escaped a couple of disastrous plays (e.g. that pick-6 that almost happened near our goal line). We put up the necessary points (34) and were fortunate to have Duke Johnson break for two plays of over 50.

FWIW, I'll gladly run the ball more out of the single back with 2 TEs or broken I-formation, etc. We had positive plays out of all of those sets.

But, even next week, if we play in the Nix Zone, I'll hold my **** breath:

Fully agreed. We got lucky a number of times tonight. We don't have that luxury against our upper echelon opponents. We have to get better and play closer with more poise.

Teams will start clamping down on our perimeter passing game. Are we a spread team now? I couldn't help but think today that Patrick Nix would be pleased with today's offensive philosophy and playcalling.

The offense was great today. The fast pace and quick passing was refreshing. We marched down the field with ease and people are complaining. Also had close to 500 yards total offense. Enjoy the win and stop over thinking

WTF are you talking about? We had one, MAYBE two series where we moved the chains quickly. This was very Nixian today.

First game, on the road, down big early with new starters and freshman almost everywhere on offense. Good move to keep it simple and take advantage of BC's conservative defense.

I think we'll see a different offense as the year goes on

Hope so. I think that's a reasonable perspective, but I once heard the exact justification after the UF '08 game. Nix then went on to do the exact same thing over course of an entire season. I'm not saying Fisch is Nix. I think Fisch is a guy we'll eventually see move on. I just saw that his playcalling was within the famous Nix Zone.

IMO offense played well, I dont get the complaining over 500yds of offense and 40+pts.....

I think the staff might not have enough confidence yet to work the middle of the field more IMO ala J12

Hey, no one hopes more than I do that Fisch blows this concern and thread up throughout the course of the season.

I think you'll be complaining a lot. It was written a couple of places that you would see more Shotgun an quick hitters. Add to that Fisch talking about getting more plays in and this is where the offense may be heading.

Miami's recruiting talent pool plays in the spread as well for the most part. Might be time to stop trying to fit square pegs into round holes. I wouldn't mind Duke turning into Kendall Hunter from Okie State with better burst.

I thought we'd be going a lot of 2 TE sets. really hope we don't let Walford and Cleveland disappear

doesn't make sense to put 5 WR on the field when that is one of our worst positions

Playing to the strengths of his QB IMO

Its what we should of done with Brock 2003-2004 but didnt instead of forcing him under center

WR's too.

I mean take a good look at our WR depth chart guys. That IS NOT a Miami depth chart.

Hurns is our best returning guy and it ain't close. Lewis already looks to he #2 maybe even #1. I mean c'mon. People are all about Dorset but face it he hasn't produced yet. The hype is all on hope.

This. People just look for things to complain about. Fisch was great. He took what the defense gave. What's the point of forcing things when what we are doing is working?

I think fisch's track record demonstrates that there isn't cause for worry. He showed last season that his offense is more than what they showed today.

I was just a part of this philosophy argument earlier this week. I'm not saying we need to turn into Oregon but we definitely have some spread personel now. Duke looked a lil like LaMichael James today. Plus did u see the run lanes he had? Not a big fan of Morris running but he can if the "right situation" called for it. I think the real key is are we balanced. 207 rush 207 pass works for me in game 1.
