Let’s cool down a minute

No, recruiting is the lifeblood of college football

Nah, coaching is the lifeblood of college football. Saban doesn't get every recruit he wants, and that place was a dumpster when he got there. The players flock to the top coaches. Recruiting without leadership is pointless. IDGAF about recruiting until we have a competent coaching staff in place. And it wouldn't matter if I did. Elite recruiting classes don't happen with any consistency without elite coaching.

I said it before and i'll say it again....
On this site we have our Michaels, Sonnys, and Fredos.
Too many Sonnys and Fredos around here IMO.

There are always trolls, who will say/type things just to get a rise out of people. There are always fans who will complain no matter what, because they are miserable. And there are always fans who will have unreasonable expectations and set themselves up for disappointment.

But, when you see an overwhelming majority of real, orange-and-green-blood-pumping fans/alumni/donors/boosters all echoing similar complaints, that's not "b!tching" or "whining" or "being female" (which is an outdated concept, by the way, @skeeter... my wife is a cold-blooded professional with a Ph.D who would castrate Flake Shames if he allowed this clown show to continue). This is just reality.

By the end of this week, we'll likely have lost at least 7 commits between the 2019/2020 classes. We will have lost our best assistant coach, who ran the defense with complete autonomy and little oversight. We'll likely have lost a promising, young coach (Banda), who is the best recruiter on the defensive side of the ball. Banda leaving will undoubtedly hurt our chances of signing Stevenson, one of our highest rated defensive targets for the cycle.

On the other side of the ball, we had one of the worst offensive years in the last three decades of Hurricane football. Our offensive line looks atrocious, and there is little to no immediate help in sight, both from a coaching standpoint and from a recruiting standpoint. Our offensive philosophy needs to be revamped entirely, and we need a fresh, creative mind at OC, but there is currently zero indication from the staff/administration that help is on the way. We have a handful of recruits on offense, but none of them at QB or RB, and are only OT recruit currently committed is a consensus 3*.

In short, there is ample cause for the many reasonable, long-tenured fans (including guys like @Liberty City El and @orange&green84) are concerned and voicing their displeasure. It's not crazy talk. It's not b!tching. It's, sadly, the current state of the program.

I love you.

Lol, apparently fans didn't learn from Golden. We're now reverting back to "oh it's the fan's fault," not the fact that we wasted a talent roster, went 7-5 against a cake schedule, and have lost the majority of meaningful games in Richt's tenure.

Kids are going to play for a team/coach that will give them the best shot at making it to the NFL, or as they say "get that bag." They don't care about some washed up coach and washed up program, unfortunately.

No it is definitely crazy talk and whining and bytching for many. It is so far past the point of just caring about fav program. And i’m not talking about you, I don’t know you ...Or Liberty City whose recruiting stuff I like to read.

I share many of your concerns...and I see faults in Richt and have called him out for some things in message board discussion. I’m just not an overly emotional fu**ing moron like so many on this board, social media, etc...these people are blabbermouth idiots that only know how to cheer for sports one way. And the ratio of them in this particular fanbase is signif higher than most.

David Lake don’t know **** about recruiting idk why he’s even doing mock classes.
Guy is a ******* idiot. Stock too. Oh let’s rank scholarship players and let’s do a 2020 recruiting article on who would be a factor. Dumbass doesn’t realize it’s 2018 and Miami needs to get their 2019 class together.

LMAO me too bro! I was literally cracking up reading the delusion in that thread. I know I am not the only Gaytor Tear vet that is noticing the similarities on this board to the Gaytor Mathz and Gaytor Logic crew that we used to bash.

If Saban was just an average coach he’d still have lucked into 1-2 chips just because his teams are so stacked ...... if he was only pulling 3 star players he’d have zero rings no matter how great his coaching is. Mack Brown and Jimbo have rings because they recruited like beasts not because they are great coaches

Yeah, you have to have players to win at the highest level, but great players do a crappy coach no good. I'm no fan of Jumbo, but you are understating his competence as a college FB coach.

Your statement above about Saban is also, well, I disagree. Saban would never have gotten the ridiculous rosters that he has built without being a great coach. Plenty of other coaches never "lucked into 1-2 'ships" at Alabama before Saban. Players are important, but for great coaches, they are eminently replaceable. See: Exhibit A, Bill Belichick.

Think of it this way... Take the Navy's top fighter pilot and put him in a Cessna, and put DBC in an F-18. Which one would you rather hop in the plane with? It takes a skilled technician to make the most out of the tools at his disposal. But a chump with no skills won't be able to do squat, no matter how great the tools.

"Bryant can take his'n and beat your'n, and then he can turn around and take your'n and beat his'n." - Bum Phillips, said about Bear Bryant

The importance of coaching is not exactly a new concept, nor is it particularly controversial or hard to grasp. And regardless, it is now clear that Richt will never be able to build that kind of talented roster at UM anyway, so the point is completely moot.

“Saban would have not gotten the stacked rosters if he wasn’t a great coach”. That’s true no doubt....but I think the Michigan state guy is a really good coach and yet he can’t pull those top 10 recruiting classes....same with the Washington huskies guy and that’s why they’ll never compete for a chip But I see what you’re saying

Well, yeah, Saban never won a championship at MSU either, and Urban didn't at Utah or Bowling Green, but they each proved at their earlier stops what they could do at the level they were at and earned their way to bigger schools where they could recruit to the elite level. But they still beat teams with superior talent than them along their way up.

Peterson at Washington is an interesting case, though. That guy almost got closer at Boise than he has at UW. Not sure if that's a factor of UW, or maybe Peterson has peaked, or maybe he's just got rotten timing, coming up against elite coaches at historically great programs like OSU and Bama. It's really not a great time to try to win a national championship right now unless you are a true blue blood elite. UW, while better than Boise, is still a step down from that level.

It's rotten timing. UW was in the playoffs 2 years ago, and had the misfortune of running into Bama in the 1st round. Petersen's a **** good coach.

During his run at Boise, there was no consistent power like there is with Saban at Bama. Had he gone to UW 10 years prior, he may have won a title by now. Having said that, I don't think Petersen will ever get fired from UW; those fans absolutely love him over there.
