LB recruiting note

Taking 0 linebackers I feel will come back to bite us in the future.

Yep. Mistake imo. Besides, LBs are the foundation of STs coverage units.

We have 1 DT committed and 0 LBs committed.

Maybe it all works out great. But anyone who isn't concerned as a fan about that situation is just relying on blind faith rather than actually thinking.

Putting aside the LB issue for a moment, if we don't land 2 stud DT's in every class, it's a problem.

I had a great coach once tell me, "You can manage your roster any way you want, but two things you always come back to, not matter what your roster looks like at the end of November: you ust 1 QB every year, and 2 DT's. And finding even 1 great DT is always harder than finding a great QB"

Moving to a 4-2-5 is very smart from a recruiting stand point in South Florida. There will always be loads of quality DB’s in South Florida.

There has been zero evidence that manny wants gear towards a 425. NONE!. Coordinators don't just change their style in a few years. While a 425 would be extremely practical for the offenses we routinely face, it doesn't mean we are actually headed that way. Y'all remember Donofrio? Did he change? Typical loser mentality right here^^. Manny can run the exact same defense but replace a lb like Mccloud with a safety to cover slot wrs. You'd have a 4-2-5 look while running the EXACT SAME DEFENSE.

The freshmen LB's are unknowns and two of the junior LB's are early entry threats (worse players have declared) so not bringing in a single LB would be a mistake (two should be the target imo).

The fact that McCloud hasn't been unseated yet is reason enough to bring in more talent at LB.

I've posted a few updates on LB over the past month, but the question keeps getting asked so I will explain it as best as I can.

There is not an urgency from the staff to sign a linebacker in this class. At this point, Miami still believes that they will land Patrick Joyner, FSU commit (despite what Joyner himself says publicly in interviews and social media). However, if they are not able to flip him, the Canes staff has no problem taking 0 linebackers in this class and loading up on 3-4 next cycle.

James Miller and Nik Bonitto are two prospects they are monitoring, but there is no guarantee that either will receive an offer even if the Canes miss on Joyner.

I hope Miller was having an off day at the 2016 Orlando Nike--in the 40 that is- gaem film looks so much faster

That may be true, but filling up a roster with reaches just to say that we added LBs is very Goldenesque. Do i want a LB or two in this class? Sure. Absolutely. But only if it's the LBs that meet our standards.

And i think we can all agree that 2018 is an extremely weak LB crop for S. Florida.

Sherwood would have been my ideal, but he wants to stick to Safety. If they can't get Joyner or Bonnitto, I say sit tight until 2019 and load up then.

Or....go find a LB from somewhere else?

They didnt dominate. That is silly. They played really well for true frosh.

It has been a long time since we've had a linebacker crew what dominated. The standards are high at LB at a school that has seen Lewis, Morgan, Barrow, Vilma, Clark, DJ, Armstead, D. Smith, Beason, Spence, Clark, Crum, Moss et al. over the past couple decades.

Ten deep of what? I see two good players and bodies. A Miami caliber recruit shouldn't be turned off by that.

And LOL at depending on multiple freshmen LB's to contribute on a team with title aspirations.

Jumbo is going to TAMU, the Joyner flip should be in the bag.

Plus, all of yall are super sleeping on Wilder, Steed & Jennings.

Wilder is a guy who will benefit greatly from going through a full Spring camp, Summer & Fall camp, people forget he didn't get on campus til July. And even with that has played solid in his role sparingly. He's pure speed, but once he gets a better grasp of his assignments he'll be a good rotational LB.

Jennings is continuing to develop, he's a thumper downhill LB that can stick. Not super fast, but smart tough kid that can play.

Steed imo is the most instinctual amongst the bunch, he was the best LB in Dade in his class. I think once he gets fully healthy he'll be a very good player in the future.

Idk why yall act like a group of True Sophomore LB's are incapable of improving their play next year in their Junior seasons.

And whether you like it or not, the 2019 LB is as equally as deep as the 2018 DB class. There's literally 15-20 LB' deep that are really really good players in state alone.

Samuel Brooks, Jesiah Pierre & Diamante Howard are already a top class. Plus, kids like Jahmar Brown, Anthony Solomon, Ge'mon Eaford, James Gordon, Joe Smith, Dorian Jones, Jeramy Passmore, Darius Williams, Jeremiah Jean, Tyriq Brown & countless others.

Jesiah Pierre has a grown mans physique, at Paradise he was bigger than Jon Beason, that kid is going to be beast as a Mike LB for us.

Ultimately, I get the panic & the concerns, but remember we went through the same thing with DB's in the last class, we all thought we weren't gonna end up with any CB's other than Bandy, but it worked out for us in the end & now for 2018 we're getting the best DB haul since the Dynasty days.

This ain't Folden, Coach Richt proved last year he always has a plan, even when it looks like there is none.

I can't agree with you more on this one, LCE. We've got more than enough LBs on the roster for 2018 even if we don't sign one this cycle. I'm hoping we get Joyner, but if we don't it's not the end of the world.

The 2019 crop has talented kids who can step in Day 1 and be contributors for us just like the 2016 trio. And the great thing is - they wouldn't be counted on to start and play significant minutes like Shaq, Pink and McCloud.

If you guys are worried about 2019, I think we will be more than fine.

FWIW, I saw a picture of Joyner on Twitter with a big split U behind him and Storm 18 across the bottom. I think it was a Miami site, but made me come here to look to see if he had flipped. Have seen nothing so far on that.

Just because we got lucky last year doesn't mean we'll have the same luck again. We were forced into that situation given Grace's suspension and Golden crap job in recruiting the position years prior.
