Tears Last Nerve III: Head to Head Against Deion (was Neon Deion Coaching Megathread)

Warnings Signs:

December 2022: Deion Sanders refuses to honor scholarship commitments of incoming players (after the athletic director begged them not to decommit during the last season

December 2022: Deion Sanders says that he is bringing his own luggage with him and encourages existing players to enter the portal.
“We got a few positions already taken care of, because I’m bringing my luggage with me — and it’s Louis [Vuitton]. Okay, it ain’t gonna be no more of the mess that these wonderful fans, the student body, and some of your parents have put up with ... for probably two decades now. I’m comin’ and when I get here it’s gonna be changed. So I wan’t y’all to get ready, to go ahead and jump in that portal, and do whatever you’re gonna get, because the more of you jump in, the more room we make, because we’re bringing in kids who are smart, say that, tough.”

January 2023: Video from documentary crew recording Deion's previous season at Jackson State emerges showing him dismissing a player in front of the team. Normally this is done behind closed doors. Deion could easily have done this. Instead it was done for all to see.

If the film crew isn't allowed to broadcast schematic review sessions, they should not have been permitted to show this.

April 2023 (last week): Deion tells players prior to the spring game that they will not all be there after the game:
“Now, facts are facts. Everybody in this room is not going to be in this room probably after Saturday,” Sanders told his players in the newly released video of what was going on behind the scenes.

April 2023 (this week): Deion refuses to release last year's game video of players who elected to transfer after the spring game, punishing them after they in essence took him up on his offer from Dec 2022

Coach subPrime is giving all his guys the Mark Pope treatment now.

Either Deion is engaging in a level of tampering never seen before in CFB OR he's just shoveling **** at the media and pretending like the portal and kids having to be public about their entrance into it doesn't exist.

Not only that but a majority of the difference makers in the portal have already signed on somewhere. You're not building a team off what's currently available. Either he knows a bunch of stars who haven't entered the portal yet or he's just talking to hear himself.

he will only be able to recruit kids as stupid as he is. no one else is going to fall fo his swill.
I went to UM and saw a lot of smart kids get duped by stupid pyramid scheme stuff in the freshman dorms lol.

I think you need to remember 17 year old kids making these decisions are very impressionable and are susceptible to a charismatic snake-oil salesman who is rich, famous, and a HOFer.

I don't think it is fair to call kids stupid who fall for it, sometimes you just have to learn things the hard way unfortunately.

Btw I also think a lot of kids and their families think it is cool to be coaches by someone who looks like them, and there aren't that many black american P5 coaches out there. I don't think that makes a kid stupid either.

With that said, I hope he flops hard.

I think unless he really fcks up he will have a few years before people start expecting wins. Mario took a 7-5 team and went 5-7 and although we're upset about those results we see the talent he's bringing in and his big contract and know he has time to figure things out. Unless Deion gets busted for breaking serious rules or loses the lockerroom with his antics, losing a lot of games after taking over a 1-11 team won't be an issue to recruiting

Which of these sub-groups is more foolish?

:eek:: Deion did this.

:hammering-head:: How dare you follow Deion stuff.

Given that Deion is a college football coach and this is a college football message board, Im gonna go with group two.
If you knew what actually looked foolish you would of stopped posting years ago

And if he starts throwing coaches under the bus, what high level coach is going to want to be under him. If he can’t get top coaches, NIL is weird, can he continuously attract elite kids to beat USC, Oregon, etc? Is his name enough to sustain a power 5 program at an elite level? I could easily see this imploding very ugly.
You and I are obviously of the same mindset about how this ends but one counter argument that any coach that joins his staff might make is that Deion is also more likely to quickly get a "bigger" job if he just clears a pretty low bar of what will be deemed "improvement" at CU.

So these guys probably also think that they could be along for the ride of a fast rise and that Deion is going to let them do all the actual coaching. I personally just wouldn't trust Deion to have any loyalty, to give any credit, or to not try to play Madden on the sidelines on Saturdays when his main priority all week was cameratime. And all that doesn't even factor in doubts about he's actually going to build his roster there.

I think Deion truly thinks he will get whoever/whenever in most cases and he has 2 solid Coordinators and they will start to out talent most teams and in 3-4 years he’s winning 8-9 and he bounces for a big time job

I think he’s back on TV in five years acting like this all never happened when he crashes and burns
If he doesn’t get a bigger job he will stop once his son is done playing qb imo

I see no problem with what he is doing. It's either going to work and they will be competitive or it will crash and burn.

1. All coaches do this to a certain extent, maybe not quite as public about it
2. These kids act like and think they're grown ups, now they're being treated like grownups
3. At least Deion is very transparent about what he is doing. Kids can't say they didn't know where they stood LOL

That locker room is going to be a mess. The blatant favoritism will rub a lot of players the wrong way. Telling kids they have to earn it, while naming his son starting QB at his press conference was ******.

"None of the new coaches would talk to the old players and treat us the same as the people they brought in," outgoing tight end Zach Courtney told The Athletic. "The new guys wouldn't be picked on as much in film. Coaches would tell them to just do better, but if it was an old player, they'd keep going off on what you did wrong and keep yelling about it."

I'd expect this to be how he treats all the backups. Like the clip of him telling a player to leave the weight room for having the wrong colored socks on. That's how it'll be for some while his favorites do whatever they want.

Every player he recruits will be treated like his favorite player of all time until he recruits someone better (or more high profile) at the position. Backups are going to hate him and regret going there. I almost pity them for falling for it.

Deion is purging as much of the 1-11 team as possible. No shame in that. Sometimes it's easier to just start over. If they win 4-5 games this year it will be a huge deal. Colorado has been apocryphal since they joined the PAC 12, perhaps even the Big 12. Nothing has been working trying it the traditional way. This is definitely a social experiment. Between NIL, transfer portal and the amount of revenue in Power 5 college football nowadays have no doubt this is a business. If you are not performing, you won't be around long. Deion is on the clock, the kids are on the clock, everyone involved in big time college athletics in on the clock. He's doing it his way so his way better work. Otherwise, bad preachers end up with empty pulpits.
I don’t disagree with you but he’s doing it in the most a$$h0le way possible

There’s a way to build your own roster and culture while also being a good mentor to guys you know aren’t good enough. This is not it and I hope Deion fail is enormous

My only thought about his entire situation is for the kids. If Sanders is telling the kids that they aren’t likely to play much BUT he is honoring their scholarship, then frankly I applaud him for trying to make CU better, being honest, while also recognizing the commitment the university made to these young men. On the other hand, if he is also taking their scholarships then he is a piece of garbage.

Maybe this exists but the NC2A absolutely needs a rule that all scholarships are for 4 years. I know some schools have taken that position. Indeed I believe UM has had that position since Shalala. But a 4 year scholarship for anyone who remains in good academic standing and does not voluntarily quit their team should be a must.

Once usc is in the big 10 it’s a wrap. Going to be like the Pete Carol years over there again

One of the guys who followed him from JSU is already in the portal.

That’s exactly what I was going to say. Like how you fix your lips to say some **** like this?

Your son was named the starting QB without a practice.

The media has really given him a lot of passes because of the showmanship.
The media eats it up because it creates headlines and eyes on the tv and other media outlets. ---> $$$
