Kyle McCord on the possibility of a waiver from the NCAA to play another year at Syracuse.

Usually it’s not the player’s decision to come into a game that might burn your redshirt. Most coaches are aware of these things and do their best to maintain redshirt status. Nick Saban didn’t . He inserted a true freshman quarterback into a blowout game to take a handful of snaps while burning his redshirt. You going to tell your coach “No” when he tells you to grab your helmet?

They all know the rules and a lot have sat out after their four games

I'm sure there are plenty of relatable explanations and ways it's nobody's fault. But it's a pretty clear rule. They get a handful of games. That's really not hard to keep track of. Between the coach and the player someone should be able to count to 5.

Usually guys who purposely sit out after four games are transferring. They’re leaving after the season so it doesn’t matter what the coach says or does. If you have no plans to transfer and want to retain a redshirt but your coach sends you out in a meaningless 5th game, what do you do?

Play the 5th game. If the next year allows Redshirt that season. Understandable it is a pain in the *** but Staff knows this rule. NCAA even changed it again to allow to play more than 4 games for those making Bowls and CFP.
