2022 Kevin Coleman 2.0

I thought Pope would be good like everyone else, but I don’t see the comparison here.

Pope was bigger and a 10.6 100M guy. Coleman is smaller with less track speed, but he is way shiftier. His highlight reel is a movie. He is also elite at tracking and catching the ball, which is Pope’s biggest problem. Lastly, everyone who knows Coleman describes him as a driven alpha male who lives for football. Pope’s passion is taking pictures in front of gas stations.

Different positions, but Coleman’s playing style really reminds me of Duke Johnson. Not the biggest or the fastest, but they make everyone miss and carry themselves with the athletic arrogance of someone who has always been the best player on the field.

Opinions make the world go round. I agree with you all on lack of elite top end speed (even though a verified 4.61 in HS isn’t anywhere close to slow/not fast enough) but not shifty, not physical and no foot speed? I disagree with that. You don’t make as many people miss and survive in traffic as much as he does if you aren’t special in that arena. The way he attacks the football for a guy his size is special as well. Good WRs come in all different sizes. Just give me guys that can catch the ball and do something with it. IDC how big they are, and he does that.

The 4.6 was also more than two years ago. He plays like a low 4.5 guy.

You have me dying at “Pope’s passion is taking pictures in front of gas stations.”

I’m not trying to dog on Coleman. I think he could be a good player.

However I think he has a pretty low ceiling and definitely isn’t a freshman that will get serious playing time. He’s got a long way to go.

I don't doubt that, but I always find that weird.

Shouldn't recruits' bigger selling point(s) be the QBs they're more likely to play with in their 2nd and 3rd years? In that way, we have as solid an option as anyone in the country. Garcia has already given glimpses he can play well at the college level and will likely be the QB affecting Coleman's future draft stock.
Exactly. TVD won’t be throwing too many passes to many freshmen. I doubt TVD returns after this season, especially If he has another year like last season. Coleman needs to connect with the younger QB’s.

Sounds like what McClendon said.

Style wise I'd say Coleman compares to:

Low-End - Same Bruce
High-End - Kadarius Toney
In the Middle - Isaiah McKenzie

There's A LOT of start/stop, jump to the side/jump backward, East/West vs North/South movement. It looks great in the highlights, but to me it's more style over substance.

While it isn't my prefered style, I like guys who attack moving forward, it can definitely generate big plays at the college level (not so much in the Pros IMO)

I’m seeing Jaylen Waddle/OBJ. The way Coleman catches & tracks the football is special. He also high points the ball very well for an undersized WR. The kid is a YAC monster & big play waiting to happen anytime he touches the ball. He will definitely be bumped back to a 5 star when the final rankings come out.

Coleman doesn’t weigh more than 155?!

Hester was the GOAT at that.

That move Rooster made on that wheel route TD (insert Antonio Banderas gif) is an example of what you’re talking about.

I find it bizarre so many of you think a verified 4.61 in 2019 means this kid is slow. We’ve said this multiple times now in multiple threads. Yes, he weighed 157 pounds in that same testing. That was in April of 2019!

We’re almost 32 months since then. I have a good friend whose wife had 3 babies in about that same time span. Things change in almost 3 years. Trust your eyes and what you see him do on the field.

As for the Pope comparison, again, the kid plays wildcat. Can any of you picture Mark Pope in the wildcat?

Wtf is going on here? Ha.
