Says who?

I love when people just assume things.

You don't know what Guidry's buyout is, particularly if he moves on "voluntarily". Don't know how many times it's been said, he is not being "fired". But if your choice is "you can be demoted to safeties coach under a new DC", you probably find a new job fairly expeditiously.

And if a head coach decides he doesn't want to be a head coach any longer...well, let me ask you what you think F$U paid to get Malzahn...

Just don't make a bunch of assumptions and let things play out however they play out. That's all.
Well we're talking a B1G program and UCF here.

Certainly possible Malzahn and UCF agreed to walk away with no money exchanged since Malzahn was already on the hot seat anyways, and UCF was looking at potentially a $12M buyout to fire him in the first place. So they could have agreed to just mutually part ways, but there is this, so I don't think it's crazy that there was likely some buyout - even if it was just worked into the deal Malzahn is getting with FSU to give him enough money to pay out on his own... Probably not that full $6M figure, but possible it was some amount...

And I don't think malzahn is in the same situation as Schiano is anyways, because UCF had been likely to fire him, whereas I doubt that Rutgers is trying to fire Schiano. Of course many times these buyouts are based on the idea that they take a HC position, so taking a coordinator position could avoid all that altogether....

His contract appears to say if he leaves after year 5 he owes $1M buyout.... 2020 season was his first. This was his 5th season with Rutgers. So if it was that same Dec 1 date, his buyout would officially be reduced to $1M I believe.

That was his old deal. He got an extension in '23

Yes, but why would the extension reduce his buyout if they increased his pay and added 3 years? If anything its more than the $1M that the original contract set it as for now. There are no new details from his extension that have been shared. So that original is the best we got to work with.

I don't think you get it.

As per usual, there is ZERO context. Buyouts are for taking a comparable job at another school.

They were never contemplated for "guy doesn't want to be a head coach any longer".

But, sure, if you honestly believe that either Taint or F$U paid massive buyouts for Chip Kelly or Gus Malzahn, that is up to you and your desperate Googling.

Especially with the F$U situation, the whole thing is laughable. Yes, the school that literally CANNOT AFFORD to fire 2-10 Prison Mike is paying a multi-million buyout to get a head coach to take a demotion to OC, for what may only turn out to be ONE YEAR.

Good lord, the stuff that some of you believe because you can cut-and-paste something from somewhere.

Context. Use it.

Ohio St Literally did pay UCLA a $1.5M buyout for Chip Kelly though, it’s not “desperate” googling lol. If you say that isn’t massive… sure I guess. But meanwhile $1-$1.5M is likely as much as we even pay Guidry yearly in the first place….

You’re acting like it’s grasping at straws when there very literally is an exact example of this lol. It may not be the case that he has a buyout for the exact reason I already said and you just also stated - that it may be exclusively for HC to HC move and not “demotion”… but it also very well could be for any reason while he is still coaching if he chooses to leave. We don’t know. All I know is what I quoted, which is Schiano likely has a $1M buyout. I do find it funny you are trying to say it’s desperate to use literal quotes though lol
