So far the best player is the one who's the smallest and least hyped...yet the most coachable, watches film, plays within the system, works hard, plays with high effort and high IQ, etc.

If I told you that Kam Kinchens would end-up being the AA out of those 3 Safeties coming in, I'd guess that most people would probably disagree. Yet here we are.

Say whatever you want about our scheme and/or coaching, but Kam has the same exact coaches as the underachieving Williams duo.

A missle with a terrible guidance system..he almost took out a teammate’s leg during the spring game..and it wasn’t a offensive player lol

He was lights out the second half of the season after getting too greedy early. We need more kids like Kam in the locker room and do nothing but eat, sleep and breathe football. Well deserved All-American.

Perhaps... I'll trust your opinion on that...

But at the end the day, my point is about evaluation, rankings and the decisions kids make once they get at Miami. (and how it determined their outcomes)

This the first I ever heard this..Kam was the best safety down here since at least his JR year. I know JW got the hype cause he was a freak but you ask anyone they’d say it kam in HS..don’t think it was “want” under the last couple regimes. I think the Recruiting apparatus just wasn’t on the level it is now under Mario..ima call BS on we didn’t want kam..DVD at that wasn’t green lighting offers..and nobody in they right mind was saying no to kam

That was a crazy S yr; u had Elliot from UT, Fitzpatrick from Bama, Reid from Stanford, & James from FSU. Johnson had a helluva yr, but those other guys did, too. What’s more of a tragedy is Jaquan didn’t make any team, that yr. Fitzpatrick had a great career, but imo he didn’t deserve 1st team. JJ could’ve at least been 3rd team at the very minimum, but he was more 2nd team compared to James (who defended a chit load of passes), Reid, & Elliot.

Idk htf I forgot about Derwin. Yeah you right. He was far and away the best safety.

Yet, some in this fan base be really still caping up for Diaz. Lol. The frustrating part is when u have guys on this board calling for guys to be recruited, & being right a good portion of the time, FOR FREE; meanwhile, u have guys making 100’s of thousands - millions/yr f’ing up in their evals.

Kam was another Redwine, which this board had to beg & scream Golden & No’D to offer; & iirc, they only offered b/c they got left w/ their ducks in their hand by other guys they pursued.

Waaaay too many of these same stories. This interview gave me PTSD of all the studs we let bounce by misevaluating that came back to eat us alive as recompense!

Bro, that S class had studs, my g. We also had Watts from A&M that yr, & f’ing Blanding from UVA that had like 100+ tackles & 4 or 5 ints (he legit should’ve been 1st team).

JJ was caught up in a hella strong Safety class; if he put up that same production in 2018, he’s no less than a 2nd team, but compared to those other cats? Sheesh.

Ehh, this is probably revisionist history. Kam wasnt getting love like that because he didnt have ideal measurables.. Not gonna dox myself cuz too close to situation but mentioned him on here and Wez (probably more wez than anything). He wasnt getting any love from miami, DVD did ALOT of work and I mentioned that also at time, keeping line open, telling him what he needed to work on, actually working with him camp setting, etc. He knew his people from back in day so that line of communication was only one he had.. Meanwhile he was getting love from multiple SEC schools and contacted directly from HC.. This is definitely one of those we benefited from covid situations because UM got in late but better late than never!

But his measurables were issue early on, and also his running time I think he soph year probably didnt help. At that time he never ran 40 and that hurt him. There is strategy to all this stuff that some dont know about. Good thing he came from a feeder school where he was leader and that obviously gets you benefit of doubt also. Plus baller on 7 on 7 camp where he also stood out. He has stood out where ever since optimist.

From what I remember he was pretty much a regular at Miami recruiting events. I get the measurables argument a lil bit..but from his JR/SR HS tape plus his measurables started to checkout..he was a no brainer.. I don’t remember a argument against him being a take or not or any uproar about us slow playing him ever being a concern really up until Right now..comparing the recruiting now to how it was then imo isn’t fair. In this particular situation it was a didn’t want situation..Mario is gunna personally recruit these kids..probably more directly than any coach out there. Manny wasn’t doing that. Most HC aren’t doing that

Yea going into senior year he was already becoming "known" recruit. I was talking before that when he went to camps. By senior year I think it was already covid lockdown. He was just being slow played but DVD was his "in" so to speak.. Kid is model baller, you couldnt draw up the mental makeup of this kid any better.. extremely happy for him
 
2nd half of the year Kam we beat Mtsu (which we should have anyway and ultimately doesnt make this season any better and but we’d be in a bad bowl and losing recruiting time.

So for this year it likely worked in our favor.
