Just rewatched game....

Kevin Olsen will be our starting QB in 2013.

As a true freshman? No, he won't. Morris will start next year, and Olsen will have a shot to win the job in 2014 as either a redshirt freshman or a true sophomore.

Agreed.

I like Morris a lot, at times he is really darn good. At times he has issues. I am no QB expert but I believe the following things would help him out

1. Not every pass needs to be a fastball, slow down and throw the change up.

2. Mechanics, stop going against the grain. Work on the footwork.

3. Take off, sometimes run.

Oh and the other thing

WR/RB and TE need to start catching the ball or at the very least stop setting the ball to the other team for the INT. Morris is not perfect and he has some correctable issues but these other guys need to start helping him out too. It is a team sport.

Morris's biggest problem is that he cannot read a defense at all. I will never understand how he could miss James on that "fade" play to Lockhart. Even I saw once the WR came in motion that MJ would be wide open.

So Fisch has a QB that can't read the defense and misses easy plays throw the ball 43 times?

Yeah, **** Fisch

If FSU was stacking the box what should he do?

I haven't re-watched the game, but I counted at least half a dozen passing plays on down and distances I would have run the ball and with FSU playing 2 Safeties over the top....

Fisch's issues, again, are timing and feel. He has a lot of great designs and ideas, but putting it together under a single identity is what separates average from good to great. In a way, it sounds like our QB. He has a lot of nice tools, but his issues are timing and feel. Putting it together into executed plays is what separates average (up and down) from good to great.

It's funny, our offense was a pile of mismanaged garbage when Kenny Kelly was our QB and everyone wanted Coker's head. Then, Dorsey started and I dont think he took snaps in the fourth quarter but for a handful of games, especially if you took out FSU. It's funny what a good, accurate QB will do for coaches. Morris' problems are he is not being terribly accurate, and when they are there, the WR's need to catch it, AND NOT having a TE worth a **** in the passing game. I do like the fact that before the injury, Morris was looking to run the ball by design.

I think Morris will get better going into next year, assuming he gets the reps in the spring he missed this year. We will have Collins and Duke, plus AJL and Lewis. If we find a decent TE, I think we will be a pretty explosive offense.

As did I. I dunno where people are getting this crap that they stacked the box all game, making it impossible for us to run.

Agreed. I feel like I've seen FSU games where they're blowing up our running plays in the backfield and throwing our RBs for lots of negative plays. I was there, so maybe my perception is skewed, but that is not the way it felt. I did not see our running game getting stuffed to the point of abandoning it altogether.

you just keep running.. and keep running.. you know, because that shows our commitment to the run game.. running into 8 man boxes is how you succeed as an offense.

Actually, I think in this situation there was no reason to stop running the ball. People are making it sound like we were losing yards with the running game. Our RBs averaged a little more than 3 yds per carry on 16 carries. Certainly not impressive, but also not worth giving up on, especially in a close game, especially with Morris struggling, and especially with a defense that we know isn't stout enough to hold FSU for 4 quarters. With a good but not great back in MJ and and explosive, but injured and smaller back in Duke, I'm not suggesting we're going to be a great running team. But to give up on the run like we did put our entire team in a tough position.

I agree we shouldn't completely abandon it, but people need to realize that sometimes the other team is going to make it so that a run play isn't a "good call" .... If teams are going to dare us to beat them with the pass, then at some point we're going to have to do that. Running into 8 man fronts, especially when our run game is mediocre, isn't going to win us any games.

Also i noticed on D that we would drop shayon green into coverage. Can anybody tell me why we drop him into coverage

I saw that too, he picked up the inside WR and Finnie blew it and double teamed the same guy, meanwhile Finnies guy was wide open

They werent, but the people who like to run around screaming "OUR OLINE SUCKS, WE CANT RUN THE BALL!!!!" like to use that are an easy scapegoat

Coincidence that our only 2 legit scoring drives heavily relied on the running game?
