I really would like to see Clements get the ball and show case what he can do...

I think this is his moment and he is licking his chops begging for more carries...
THe kid has paid his dues, bounced back from a major injury and is ready to ball out

Like his potential. Don't think he's ready though. Doesn't seem to run like he should for his size..yet. That being said, I still want him getting some reps and hopefully we see improvement from him over these next few crucial games.

I'm from the school that thinks RBs basically are who they are from the moment they step foot on campus. If you're special it'll show right away. From his brief game action, I see a guy who is more fluid and smooth in his running style than the other guys. Of course, he'll get better physically as he gets stronger and grows, but I think his natural ability as a RB is better than the other guys based on what I've seen.

The intriguing part of the rest is the season is to watch who steps up and elevates their game. Is it Gus,OT Figs Bush etc somebody needs to .

It looks like the defense might be rounding into form with guys like Bush and Figs pushing for more time. These guys need to be on the field instead of retreads like Highsmith and Cornelius.

It's crazy that we can all see different things out there. I have not seen anything to this point that indicates a fluid and smooth running style. Certainly not more so than the other backs we have. I think(and hope) he can grow into a quality back.

We proved against UNC we won't abandon the run without Duke. Our ****ing 2 minute offense was almost all runs to win that game. Obviously VPI has a much better defense than UNC, but the Heels knew we were running it and we still ran it. I have no doubts we will run it 30-40 times if need be.

yeah the problem is that those runs will not be nearly as effective with Duke out.

DC has been good but Duke's 10-15 yard bursts are 5 yard gains for DC. and after DC, there is really nobody. EC i pray to god comes out of da woodwerks and can take 10-15 carries a game (something he has never done in his career)

Huh? Duke was out the entire time DC was making those runs against UNC.

DC averaged a lot less per carry than Duke in that game and in every other game. the guy is not as explosive. that is obvious. I like DC but the offense takes a major hit with Duke out (obvious)

we are probably gonna have to be much more methodical on offense which is tough with a QB that is struggling

I agree. the guy looks pretty bad to me at this point. he has good speed at his size but he is very lanky looking and does not change direction well or have a great initial burst. like i said before, if he has to stop and change direction in the backfield the play is over

I hope he does chise, because what we have right now. With Duke out, imo will not be able to carry the load that is going to be needed here on out.

He's a cut above the other guys physically and can bring something they can't. I could see him very easily doing what Javaris James did here as a freshmans.

I'm not sure I agree with that. If he was really head and shoulders above Crawford, why wouldn't he get more snaps?

In general I dont understand people posting a 3rd/4th string player being better than the player above him. If Golden and Co. thought Gus was able/ ready to contribute a lot of snaps to the team, he would be. Crawford has worked hard and deserves his spot as #1 back ATM.

Crawford is most obviously better than Gus at this point. to say otherwise is flat out retarded

Lol if Gus, at this stage, was a quality back he'd be getting touches outside of the SSU game. Not saying he won't mature into one but for now he is what he is. Serviceable.

Didn't Gus have like 10 carries against USF? Not saying that's impressive, but its not just savannah

Sure did, for 53 yards with 5.3 ypc. Compared to DC who had 13 carries 34 yards, and 2.6 ypc.

Nah. He sucks. Impossible.

Nobody is saying he sucks. Some are just more level-headed than others and don't believe he's going to come in and drastically improve the run game.

Being a more talented natural RB doesn't always mean you will get more snaps than a guy who is less talented. I don't know if they trust him yet in the blocking game or to carry out all of his assignments. I have no idea how smart he is or how hard he works.

Sometimes, coaches trust less talented players over more talented players. Do you think that Carter is more talented than AJ Highsmith? I sure do. If we accept your logic that you have applied to Gus (he's not playing, so he's not as good), then Carter isn't as talented as AJ because Carter never plays.

When I tell you guys that I think Gus is the better natural RB and can rip off bigger chunks of yards that's all I'm talking about. I'm not talking about seniority or blocking or any of that.

Who's saying he's going to drastically improve the run game? It's almost impossible to have a conversation around here. He's not as good as Duke, so he's not going to drastically improve the run game. I think he's a more talented and natural running back than the other two guys, so I think he'll start eating up reps as the year progresses. That's all.
