Miami has hosted a number of recruits on their campus over the course of June, which has really given the staff a chance to evaluate a multitude of talents in person and make some essential in-person evaluations.
After four official visit weekends, a bunch of on-campus camps, a pair of cookouts and a loaded Paradise Camp, Miami has a better idea of what they're looking for as they look to build the Class of 2022.
Over the month, Miami picked up a pair of commitments in Top247 cornerback Khamauri Rogers and wide receiver Landon Ibieta, giving them three pledges in the class to go along with four-star quarterback Jacurri Brown.
With a busy month of June in the books, we thought it was time to take a crack at another Mock Class. You can check it out below.
The Class
QB
Jacurri Brown
WR
Landon Ibieta
WR
Jayden Gibson - Miami wants to add length and size at wide receiver and that’s why they’re all in on the 6-foot-6, 185-pounder. Florida is viewed as the primary competitor and the Gators hold the 247Sports Crystal Ball lead, but people in Coral Gables are confident that they are firmly in the picture.
TE TBD - Miami plans to grind it out with both
Kaden Helms and
Jaleel Skinner at the tight end position, but it’s difficult to project either in the class at this stage. Both guys have come on official visits, but Oklahoma, Arizona State and UNC are also pushing for Helms and Skinner will have Alabama, Florida, Texas, Clemson, Florida State and UM fighting for his services.
OL
Falentha Carswell - The Sandersville (Ga.) Washington County native really impressed
Garin Justice and the rest of Miami’s offensive staff during his official visit. The 6-foot-7, 275-pounder is green, but the Hurricanes like his upside due to his basketball background.
OL
Malik Agbo - Miami is one of the programs standing out most to the Seattle metro area lineman, who also has Oklahoma, LSU, Oregon and Washington in the mix. Agbo is already working on setting up another visit to Miami for a game at Hard Rock Stadium.
OL
Jacob Hood - The Nashville native drew
Bryant McKinnie comparisons from people in Coral Gables after getting eyes on him over the weekend. Miami is right in the thick of the recruitment with Georgia being some of the main competition. Auburn, LSU, Florida, Michigan and Michigan State are others he mentioned to InsideTheU on Sunday.
DL
Shemar Stewart - The 247Sports Crystal Ball has swung in Miami’s favor this month and that’s based on the fact that the five-star Dade County native made at least five trips to Coral Gables this month.
DL
Nyjalik Kelly - The former Florida State commit was around Coral Gables frequently early in the month. He was the last recruit to leave the Hurricanes ‘First Day Out’ cookout on June 1 and made a second return for an unofficial visit a couple of weeks later. Kelly has taken official visits to LSU, Indiana and Oregon this month.
DL
Zane Durant - The 247Sports Crystal Ball began trending towards Miami for Durant this weekend leading into his Independence Day decision. Indiana and Penn State are two of the other finalists for the Orlando native.
DL
Daniel Lyons - Miami pairing Durant with Lyons would be a solid haul to round out the defensive line. The Homestead native has been on Miami’s campus on three different occasions this month.
LB
Wesley Bissainthe - The Miami Central product has been hot on Miami’s radar since his sophomore year. The ‘backer has been in Coral Gables four times this month, including for Paradise Camp on Saturday.
LB
DeMario Tolan - Tolan and Bissainthe were seen spending time together this weekend at Paradise. That was after conversations with both
Calais Campbell and
Jon Beason. A commitment is coming on July 8 on the heels of his official visit to Miami. The Hurricanes are in a good spot, but they will have to battle out Clemson and LSU
CB
Khamauri Rogers
CB
Trequon Fegans - Landing a second Top100 talent at cornerback would be huge for
DeMarcus Van Dyke. Fegans took an official visit to Miami the first weekend of June and sources have indicated that the Hurricanes are a very real contender. Alabama and
Nick Saban are involved, as are Georgia and South Carolina.
CB
Chris Graves - A commitment coming on July 9 could come with good news for the Hurricanes, who are looking to stack talent at the position this cycle. LSU and South Carolina are others involved, but Miami is the heavy Crystal Ball favorite.
CB
Ja'Cari Henderson - People in Coral Gables are very high on Henderson and his elite athleticism. Miami brought both Henderson and his twin brother in for an official visit this month and is one of the only programs to get the two on campus multiple times this summer.
S
Demari Henderson - Miami feels like the other Henderson twin, who was a key piece in the defense for Sanford Seminole, who won the 8A state championship last fall, could play at Miami. Both brothers are also drawing D1 basketball interest.
S/Striker
Nick Cull - The Southwest Georgia native had a strong official visit to Miami, which led to a string of Crystal Ball’s in favor of the Hurricanes. A commitment is coming on July 12, which could benefit the Hurricanes.
What It Means For Miami
This 18 man class would finish with a score of 252.27, which would have given Manny Diaz & Co. the No. 15 class in 2021, No. 18 in 2020, No. 17 in 2019 and No. 17 in 2018. It would also give the Hurricanes five more spots to use in the transfer portal, which is important given how successful the program has been in it.
This class also includes a bunch of the Hurricanes top targets, especially on the defensive side with five-star defensive lineman Shemar Stewart and Top247 defensive lineman Nyjalik Kelly, Top247 linebacker Wesley Bissainthe, and the cornerbacks in Khamauri Rogers and Trequon Fegans.
This class would also include guys the Hurricanes have been able to evaluate and may be higher on than the industry, such as offensive linemen Falentha Carswell and Jacob Hood, and defensive backs Ja'Cari and Demari Henderson.
It would be a solid haul for the Hurricanes and a strong class to stack on top of their No. 11 ranked class from the Class of 2021.
