Look, much though I can admire Freeze's "blood sucking killer savage" characteristics, he committed crimes. He hired prostitutes. He lied to recruits and players about whether the violations being investigated had happened on his watch or Nutt's watch. In addition to the monetary-related recruiting allegations, there was also an allegation related to helping a recruit cheat on the SAT.
So, no, at least with Freeze, this is not about avoiding a "youngish southern braggadocio talking game type coach".
Now, you could argue that our similar non-interview of Kiffin is in the same category. And we have privately discussed some of the more substantial allegations against Kiffin, so let's just sidestep that issue for now.
The key is "who is the decision-maker". And decisions on Richt, Diaz, and Mario happened pre-Radakovich, though clearly Rad knew Mario was under consideration.
And while Radakovich did not hire Dabo, he worked with him, so I don't think he'd have a problem hiring a "youngish southern braggadocio talking game type coach with no former ties to UM". And if we're being honest, I'm not even sure we have any other candidates with "former ties to UM" in the hopper.
I'd also say this. If the whispers on the board are true, that Dan is going to retire in a few years, then I suspect that we could see Alonzo elevated to replace him. And I definitely think Alonzo's decision-making on coaching hires would be much more business-oriented than Beta Blake's decisions were.
