Why? If decently cheap it's be a good addition. He'd be a Horton replacement and we literally only have 3 non freshman at WR currently.

We need 2 WRs to add at minimum. We need the best WR we can get in portal, and then someone else on Young's level would be quite good imo
At this point I'd rather let the young guns shine then double back on Colbie Young. if he was a true #1 difference maker @ WR i could see ur point, had every chance to be the man here but chose to go Georgia & become irrelevant smh.

The weakest position groups on the team are LB and WR.
That’s why we will be getting an impactful wide receiver and linebacker out of the spring portal. I can almost guarantee you, those two positions will be addressed in the portal. So there is no need to worry about that.

LB yes… but WR is more “unproven” than weak for now at least. But I get where you are coming from. We need one of these freshmen WR to breakout and be that guy. That would mean a lot for our talent evaluation and the future. If we have to/get a WR in the spring portal who isn’t 1st round material but ends up being our go to guy I’ll be a bit discouraged about that. It won’t be the end of the world but we’re overdue seeing some high level production from underclassmen offensively.

I know… a lot easier said than done.

In before some dip**** mentions the Syracuse drop like he didn’t have 10+ other games of making tough catches
Thanks for having my back….the Cal game comes to mind, makes a great short yardage catch in the red zone for a TD that’s called back by 15 yards to then follow it up w another clutch TD catch in the end zone on the ensuing play

I think for WR as well we just need numbers. Isnt 10 typically the # for WR?

We have Ray ray, Jojo, Chance and Ny
TF: Upsaw, Toney and Moore

Then grabbed CJ

I think we are just light on numbers as is. I also think Ray ray, toney and Upshaw all play in the slot so we likely dont need a slot guy but if CJ or Jojo go down we are in trouble just from a numbers perspective.

Also any word on Chance? I rarely hear him mentioned good or bad.

Lots of dropped passes, and not having Brock Bowers
For me what really made beck WAS HAVING BROCK BOWERS. His receivers have always been mid. Beck has done his job mind you. But I've never seen him as anything more than exactly that. He's not a game changer. He's not gonna wow you with his throws. He's gonna do what he's supposed to and that's all we can ask.

Fair point…. Since you mentioned it. Pigeon holing our WRs as solely slots or outside guys isn’t doing us any favors. We have to do a better moving guys around consistently to create favorable mismatches. Teams did it against us as our nickels were easy money. But you seeing it all over the NFL and CFB. You move your talented play maker all across the formation and let him eat.

I still think losing Horton to the portal (and Bama, bleh) was the biggest off season "recruiting" failure, and R Williames at TE after that.

Chance hasn't been practicing. I assume he's been hurt?

Whose better currently on the roster at the wr position....proven?

It’s not about that. It’s about the fact that we have 8 WRs and 5 are freshman. I had the caveat that if it was decently cheap

Yeah I agree with you and what I said wasnt exactly what I meant so my bad on that one. when I meant slot I didnt mean specifically playing in the slot just that we have a lot of "slot" body types that can only do so much. Hopefully gone are the days of throwing fade jump balls to Mike Harley and Jeff Thomas. And I dont think anyone wants to see a 4 WR spread of Upsaw, Toney, Ray ray and some sub 6'0 transfer.

Basically we have #s of sub 6 ft WR that are twitchy (Ray ray, Toney, Upshaw. We are missing quality depth or competition for the WR 6'2+.

Could be, I havent heard anything about an injury or even a rumor.

In all the videos I've seen of the WR group, he hasn't been there

100% agreement @Brooklyndee

2023 Beck is all world and a future 1st round pick
2024 Beck commits way too many turnovers, especially in big games.

The difference between the 2 seasons, IMO, was the cast around Beck. So I guess we will find out whether 2025 UM talent wise is more like 2023 UGA, or 2024. I would assume we will be somewhere in between. We won’t have a threat like Bowers, but we also won’t drop as many passes as 2024 UGA (which in turn, I think, lead Beck to press and take risks resulting in lots more INT’s).

Beck is more than a game manager, but he isn’t Cam Ward in that Beck can’t will his team to wins. But give Beck a decent defense, good RB’s, OL and WR’s and I believe he is more than capable of doing very well at UM. But he needs all the parts around him.
