The fact that he thought this would work is pretty scary. He’s been around too long to think you can create a video game coaching staff

Most successful Coaches, by nature, are arrogant as fucc! For better or for worse. They all believe that their style, or their scheme, or their coaching abilities will trump anything. They all believe they carry the secret stuff. Over my career, I have personally told college coaches (football and basketball) which of my kids to recruit, and which of my kids were questionable (based on things like character, grades, attitude, etc.). Of course my suggestions would be ignored when a few of “character issue” kids would walk in looking like they were chiseled out of marble. . When college coaches see kids that fit their “profile”, their diccs get hard and they can’t see anything else. So it’s no doubt that he thought it could work.

Because at this point nobody really knows anything about Mario's staffing plans other than there will 'most likely' be a couple of changes. Through his entire career he has been very slow regarding staffing changes / hires. So there is still hope that Gattis will be leaving at some point in the "relatively" near future. There will be a lot of un-renewed season tickets if he does return.

Coach Ponce Is not going to be fired at least, my nephew spoke to him and asked him straight up if he was going anywhere, and he said no and that they had big things planned coming up. So either he is just being very professional and recruiting till he leaves or he really isnt leaving.

That’s like saying a coach is not getting fired because the AD showed confidence in him.
Of course Ponce ain’t gonna say to a random guy he might get fired…
