Are people seriously still worried about Gattis coming back? That was settled weeks ago, nut up people.

Seeing as Gattis was only credited with recruiting one player this cycle, it didn't do much good to keep him if the plan was to replace him before next season. Even if the next OC is still coaching with a title contender and didn't want a distraction, it probably would have been better to just fire Gattis weeks ago to show recruits (especially at WR and QB) that they can expect a different offense next year.

If I'm a recruit, I'm not going to put any faith in a HC telling me that there will be a different OC. We just saw Mario go through this last year when his top choices (supposedly) turned him down and he settled on Gattis. If/when it happens again, what's to stop Mario from deciding that he'd rather roll with Gattis again than go with his 9th or 10th option? Or maybe he just remembers that his original plan was to have Ponce eventually replace Gattis in a couple years anyways, so he might as well make the switch to Ponce now.

Still holding out irrational hope that the new OC will be announced once the Bills are finished with their season.

If Iowa is still making changes on offense, which I read was not going to happen until after their bowl game, then we are looking at after 12/31. I still think that is where Gattis ends up.
This doesn’t really make any sense because even if for argument’s sake Gattis is the front runner for the Iowa OC job, what happens if after 12/31 that job falls through? Does Mario then just fire him, which would like dumb for waiting so long; does he let him keep looking for jobs and drag it out further? And what about Ponce? Also, under this supposed theory then Mario is basically delaying hiring their replacements, when others schools are already making hires, further narrowing the pool of potential candidates.

A few assumptions I am making. There was some early buzz about Iowa and Gattis after the Michigan qb and I believe another guy on offense portaled there that played under him.

Mario is allowing Gattis to save face so it will appear he's leaving on his own. This also eliminates the issue of a contract buyout.

This was already done so it's a matter of formality when it's announced.

Mario could already have a list of guys from Highsmith that fits what they're looking for. Some of those candidates may already have jobs they like but would consider the Miami OC job if offered. They are not necessarily currently on the market.

Not out of realm of possibility at all.

Listening to all Mario’s talks
It’s clear his message is that coaching is not the issue
And that he lacks talent
All he talks about is talent acquisition
And I think that’s his play
He’s gonna keep talking about needing more talent
At least he’s shown an amazing ability in acquiring said talent
It’s gattis or bust
Gotta hope Mario gets enough talent to out talent the corching
