John huggins talks about miami recruiting strategy.

Explain to us how, exactly, Rumph choked in PS2 and TC's recruitments? We all know the result, but please tell us precisely what he did wrong recruiting these kids that constitutes choking, your opinion.

Alternatively, I would suggest PS2 was NEVER coming here. He was $ec bound from the beginning, and the only reason UM even managed to get him here to take their shot was because of the relationship with Rumph. As for TC, we will likely never know for certain how that played out, but TC always spoke positively about Rumph. I am not certain there was more that could have been done from a recruiting standpoint.

Judas, besides being a Banda primary recruit, is not worth mentioning.

CJ acted a fool and Rumph did what a good coach is supposed to do and gave him some coaching. The kid was feeling himself too much and didn't want to hear it, which apparently caused the relationship to sour. I guess Rumph could have ignored the diva behavior for the sake of getting a commit, but that's not the type of man he is (and not the character of athlete he wants).

At the end of the day, Rumph's tenure will be judged by the results on the field. If these DBs ball out, his job is secure. If top local CBs continue to go elsewhere and the guys who do commit don't perform to standard, his job will be in peril just like any other coach.
I think u answered ur question on ur own. He choked by not pulling them. I believe, and im sure a lot of other canes fans did too, that part of the reason Rumph was brought here was to establish an AH pipeline. He has failed miserably.

It is astonishing to me how people have given Rumph a pass for missing on those two kids. First of all he was a canes DB, Second he was a NFL DB, Third he coached these kids in HS, Fourth I believe he had a relationship with these kids even prior to HS, Fifth 2nd year recruiting bounce that most staffs get, Sixth best Cane season in over a decade, Seventh both PS2 n TC families are well off negating some of the "bags" story, 8th both families live 40 min from the rock, 9th great education at the U, 10th immediate playing time.Rumph had probably more advantages in recruiting two 5*s than anyone probably ever and still came up empty handed.

You might be able to excuse those 2 horrible misses if he was killing it with other recruits but hes missing on them too. Its ok u guys want to be above average but guess wat, above average doesnt get u to number 6.

And heres bonus 11th TC was reportedly ours to lose and a heavy miami lean n we lost him. Makes me wonder wat kind of interpersonal skills Rumph has, dude must have the charm of a door ****.

No, my friend, I did not. I asked you to explain, in your opinion, how Rumph choked. What did Rumph do wrong that led to the misses? For example, did he lay off at a critical time? Did he apply too much pressure? Did he not properly list UM's strengths and weaknesses? Was his text-game not up to pay? Did he use negative recruiting and have it backfire? Did he insult a kid or do something that turned a kid off?

Simply saying he choked by not pulling them after saying he choked and we lost them is circular reasoning.

The rest of your response is mostly a list of the advantages Rumph had in recruiting these kids -- which, for the most part, no reasonable people are disputing. You say this leads you to wonder what kind of interpersonal skills Rumph has, which I think is a fair position to take. But I am just not convinced TC or PS2 were ever coming here (largely because of all the advantages Rumph had).

Based on all the advantages Rumph seemed to have, I wonder what DB coach (if any) could have gotten them to commit to the U. Some people will always prefer the front runners, and I wonder if that was the case with these two commits.

I am no insider, I have the same information that most people do. I cant tell you exactly how he choked just that he did. The only reason I have read about that attempted to explain the many misses he has in recruiting is that he "real" with the kids and doesnt make false promises, which is commendable, but really isnt a valid explanation in my opinion. There are ways to be "real" and honest and still get these kids here.
