I know this has been brought up but once again I will state the obvious....This guy has been under performing and is the only coach on this staff that fails to inspire...3 years of recruiting and this man cannot land one impact defensive lineman...Do not count "OP" that was all Coach Golden there.
I have heard stories where recruits and their parents believe this man is a "CornBall"...This has to be the year where if our lineman show no improvement, he has to be shown the door...My vote goes to "Kevin Patrick" the Dline coach at USF

I don't put any stock in the rumors that he's an idiot on the recruiting trail. Al doesn't strike me as a guy who would tolerate that.

Man.

Things turn around fast. 'Course, this is Miami, and things are supposed to be fast.

I recall the masses *****ing and moaning about Kehoe, although I was tickled he came back. Kehoe was 'over the hill,' Kehoe 'couldn't coach,' Kehoe was 'old school and not up to modern coaching techniques,' Kehoe 'couldn't recruit,' -- on and on and on..

Now I don't know about coach Franklin.

What I DO know is he hasn't had much to work with. Yeah, he's had a six-shooter, but only one or two bullets. You can't do a gunfight worth a crap with only one or two bullets.

We're TRYING to address the defensive line. Recruiting like the Devil himself was breathing down our neck.

Let's see that these youngsters can do THIS year.

And we all know that some coaches are dynamic recruiters who can sell ice to eskimos, and others just aren't as polished. Whether he is, or whether he isn't, we'll have to see. It's not like this NCAA crap hasn't and ISN'T to this day, causing us problems.

2 years of recruiting.

On the recruiting front, maybe the cornball assesment all has to do with him being moreso a West Coast kind of guy... He seems to specialize in dealing with kids out west; after all he did come from USC.

As far as coaching and developing guys on the DLine, the verdict is still out. We had a young crop of guys on the inside, so it's hard to tell right now, until we see some extended play from the guys...

Sure Golden might have "landed" OP, but I'm sure Jethro has has his hand in showing the guy a little something since he's been here.

If there's any criticism of the Jethro, I actually think he's soft on the guys. I've seen videos where he's just allowing the guys to go through the motion so to speak, and not being the task master about the finer details, like Art Kehoe is.

In my opinion, I think that's the difference in the one-on-one drills we see, when the OL man handles the DL

You can't turn around a disaster in 2 seasons. Wont happen. One step at a time...and yes, this program was a ******* disaster.

Can't land an impact defensive lineman? He hasn't landed a DT, he's gotten plenty of DE's. At least try to be accurate.

You guys need to stop blaming Jethro for all of your DT recruiting problems. If Jethro is so bad at recruiting Al needs to use some other people to recruit DT's or at least help him out. You dont have to be the position coach to recruit a player. If the others coaches cant get it done then Al needs to personally recruit DT's himself. At the end of the day the DT problem is on Al Godlen. He is the man in charge of the program.

I believe it's been stated many times that coaches recruit by region, not position.

2011: Was a chaotic time for the staff with NO VISITS set up when they arrived December 12th. Hit: Jalen Grimble, Junior Alexis, Corey King, Darius Smith, Olsen Pierre (DE)

2012: Missed: quay evans, eddie goldman, omari phillips Hit: Jacoby Briscoe, Earl Moore, DeQuan Ivey

2013: Missed jay-nard bostwick, keith bryant, maquedis bain, Hit: Ufamba Kamalu

We missed on the most important recruit last year, DT Lavon Hooks. A ready made savage at DT that would've made a massive impact on this defense.

We've gotten chick, mccord, pierre, and aqm. Where did this jethro is overrated myth come from? The guy coached at USC and the NFL. What am I missing here?

He doesn't recruit all of our D-line prospects. Each coach has a region.

From what I've seen, from several videos and a little bit in person, he seems to know his ****. He's teaching the kids proper technique. Now, if he can get them to apply it in live action is another story, I don't know.

I'm not sure what anybody expects him to accomplish with this group of players. The DL for the last few years have probably been the worst, most unathletic, unexplosive group of D-linemen I've ever seen at UM. We used to have a 2-deep of guys with nasty get-offs, not we have a bunch of thick-ankled, lumbering dudes with no bend.

I still cry about that from time to time.

Gat **** he was basically signed, sealed and delivered. Calling Jethro his uncle and ****. And then...boom! Ole ******* Miss. **** hurts dawg.

A well thought out response. Couldn't have said it better.

..... Al Golden said being a strong recruiter is an attribute that you must have to be considered a good coach in his opinion. This year is make or break time for Jethro when it comes to both coaching and recruiting.
