"We are building a team"....so is it not a step back if our defense gives up 45 to aTm? I've seen some crazy takes on here but usually people at least know they are crazy takes...

I’m not going to really get into it with people that say they would rather look good and lose than look bad and win

Obviously I'd never choose to take a loss over a win except in the rare circumstance of a meaningless game that is the difference of a corch getting fired and staying on another year.

But I understand what he's saying. Mario has always had a concern with his offenses. There's not much concern about him fielding good defenses. A team that can score 40 points against a good defense, even in a loss, gives some hope for the future that maybe Mario can field some elite offenses.

Winning by scoring 3 points doesn't put those fears to rest and feels like just kicking the can down the road.

But I'd still take a win in that scenario.

Never thought I could ever even think about agreeing with such a thought….but being there and witnessing it live, you have a valid argument. That was very hard to watch live so I know it was harder to watch in person.

Yes black and white, as Herm Edwards said “You play to win the game”….but I can almost 100% assure you that if we win every game 14-6…10-0….20-7….7-3 etc etc….we shalt not be inheriting the WR talents of kids on par with the likes Jeremiah Smith lol.

Edit: However I’m solidly on Team “win over everything”….just for those keeping score. Lol

So you have no issue with your defense getting skull****ed in a loss but having a moral non victory?

I said I'd prefer the win but I understood where he was coming from. I wouldn't be happy with any loss but you can still take some positives from a loss where you score 40 points on a good defense with a coach who is known to be stubborn about slow/boring offenses.

Of course I wouldn't be happy giving up 40+ as well.

You play to win the game (period). I don’t care if we win 2-0 against Texas A&M. Would I want that over beating their asses 45-21? No. But the goal is to win the game. Doesn’t matter the score.

I would much rather go 11-1 watching a Wisconsin offense than go 7-5 with a high octane Huepel-esque offense.
