Jenkins has been eating his wheaties

Rayshawn said he was clocked last year running a 4.51 which is pretty good speed and he said this year he thinks he can be faster even with the added weight. (4.4 range) Also remember that he's a state champion hurdler, so while he may not be as fast as Deon, he's pretty dam fast himself.
Here's the article it's a good read if you haven't read it yet.

RSJ has just as much potential as Bush.

It may not even be before the end of the season that they are the best defensive backfield in the country with Burns, Carter, and Howard joining them.

I don't know. Bush is a lot rangier and quicker and can still hit. Plus he's only getting bigger. Unless he gained a step since high school I can't see Jenkins running down any relatively quick receivers.

I don't know what Jenkins you've been watching, but if anything Rayshawn is the rangier one, which is why he tends to have more FS deep responsibilities. That might be his best asset.

Bush is definitely the hitter and great in coming up to shut down the run. Rayshawn is the ballhawk.

You don't see Rayshawn running down any quick receivers? What about when he had 3 PBUs in the Duke game last year sitting in WRs hip pockets with ease, going stride for stride and breaking up passes?

Really though Deon is just as much of a ballhawk as Rayshawn if not more.... Rayshawn did show his range in the Duke game and in the USF game, but I do recall Bush stepping up big in bigger games like the FSU game. He almost had what would've been his 1st interception in that game but Gunter got in his way. It ended up being a PBU. He also destroyed a WR against VT, in the endzone, preventing him from catching a TD on that play.

IMO If Deon wouldve never gotten hurt last season, his stats would have been much more impressive then Rayshawns.... I think both of those guys can play either assignment from the safety position but Deon sort of seperated himself from the pack first and against teams that we were the underdogs against. It took Rayshawn a little longer for him.... which is fine, i mean its not like they had better safeties to learn from, the both of them came in as true freshman and were already the 2 best on the team.

Bush said on Twitter today that he's 206lbs!!!! Can't wait to see these young guys shine this year!

He'll drop down to 199ish to start the season. That's right about where he needs to be to keep that explosiveness he has.

why do ppl keep saying this..... if he loses weight it wont be at the start of the season but in the middle of it. The staff is going to make sure everyone keeps as much weight on as they can while in Fall Camp.

Jenkins will be used back there to erase anything that get loose. Bush will be used to stuff the run and cover the TEs and TB

When was the last time we were able to have a debate like this? Lol! Wow. Goes to show how the tide is turning. We have TWO potentially stud Safeties and Mr. Carter hasnt even stepped in the building.

IMO, I have said it before..if we are talking comparisons to former cane Safeties as it pertains to body type and athleticism..Bush is Kenny Phillips, Jenkins is Daryl Williams, and J Carter is Bennie Blades.

Needless to say this is a great problem to have.

I'll admit, last year I thought there was a 50/50 chance Bush would end up as corner and Jenkins would wind up at WR.

That position went from a disaster to a strength. One of the most important developments of 2012.

Really can't stress this point enough.

I'm certainly not giving the staff a free pass on everything but when they get results in certain situations, it certainly boosts their credibility. Safety is a prime example. Where would we have been without a kid who avoided contact in high school and another kid that was pretty unhappy about being put on defense?

They both can be all-conference. For real.

I'm really high on Jenkins. And Bush, well, he has big-time written all over him.

It's called nutrition.

This would be a concern with the previous staff, but the current staff has placed a premium on proper eating habits, which aid in preventing appreciable weight loss.

How the **** is 26 not retired yet.

I think ST26 would want it that way.. Think about what it means to a player to represent him out on that field. Not saying they can do him justice but they can pay tribute with how they play the game. JMO

Same reason 99 and 52 aren't retired. We don't do that. If Miami retired numbers we would have 85 guys fighting over 40 numbers.

Well, we do, do that for some, such as #10, #14 #42, #69

You are correct. We retired all 4 of those the same day way back in Jimmy's time when they started the ring of honor at The Orange Bowl.
Haven't done it since.
I'm guessing because there would be too many numbers retired, and where do you draw the dividing line?

I don't think we've had anyone wear 99 worthy of rendering it retired. Maybe Winston Moss? Your point stands though. Plus, we'd have to pick who we retired #5 (Bratton, Edge, & Andre) and #20 (Kosar & Reed) over.
