Jeff James !!

I wonder how fast he is

I don't think he has special breakaway speed. But it's obvious from his tape that he has the instinct and athleticism to be rangy as **** while playing centerfield. He closes on throws and on the run impressively quick. All the speed in the world doesn't mean sh*t at safety without that.

So you are saying he isn't an elite athlete. But is elite at playing safety? Mark, that you?

I'm not calling this kid Ed Reed but when you watch his tape does he remind you of him a little? Because he reminds me of Ed.

jesus Christ mane.... Im sorry to be that guy but I dont see anything special...Romeo Finleys tape looks much much better

lol stop. Youre turning into that guy, bruh.

Have you seen his hudl video?? Dude looks like a video game player the way he was clowning everyone else.
hold up. so your telling me you watch this tape.
The best DB out 6 - Jeff James Jr. highlights - Hudl
and you see NOTHING? Normally respect your opinion Vern but **** man.

are we watching the same tape? i hope that he can develop, but the first 1:45 is him having interceptions thrown directly at him.

It's terrible when a safety is in position to make a play and does. Oh well.

Go Canes!

“Welcome to The ‘U’ Nephew…Don’t worry about the recruiting ratings, (They don’t know no better lol) they didn’t get to see you play because U only played ur Sr. year… We also declined attending all the High School Camps & Playing on Loaded High School teams on purpose… Went all in for 1 school…(No other visits, no nothing) Growing up U knew it was only 1 place for ‘U’… Always told you everything will Fall in place if you do the right things…
If you think signing day is a good feeling ….Wait until you feel what it’s like to Come out of that Smoke in front of Real ‘UM’ fans!! Congrats and I can’t wait to see you hit somebody, stand over em’, & look em’ in the eyes right before u talk ish!!! ‪#‎MiamiStyle‬ Lol ‪#‎Canes4Life‬

Hudl had him as a FS and WR. Is it possible that he can play CB at the next level?

I was watching him move at safety in a few of those clips, and he was very fluid turning which tells me he may have the hips for CB. Would be great.

I could see him playing the nickel in certain situations. Very quick recognition skills which is important at that position.

A bit like the NJ TE - James has flown in under the radar. He's incredibly gifted.

I'm saying he's not an elite sprinter, but has elite instinct and great functional athleticism (body control, change of direction, coordination, reaction time, backpedal speed, fluid hips, etc.). A lot of safeties that test well in the 40 or cover ground on a long straight ahead run can't break on the ball like James or make a quick read to shift from general drop back to attack where the ball is going, or shift from drop back to run support and actually stop a run before it's a first down.

One thing I always look at with safeties is where they are making tackles in run support. It tells a lot about their instinct and how well they read everything going on. Kenny Phillips always stood out to me while at UM for how frequently he came up to support the run for no gain or next to nothing. That's rare.

When James is returning INTs or playing offense, he doesn't look to have elite top end speed. But, when he is playing deep safety, he covers A LOT of ground on every play and regularly gets to his mark quickly. That impresses me.

Funny joke, though . . .

PLEASE keep this kid at Free Safety. He is a natural, and I think he can be very good. I like him a lot.

Do NOT move him to WR. Do not, do not, do not!

He has very, very good instincts, fluid hips, timing, and and he's a natural playmaker. Seems to be one of those guys that just makes plays. Let him take a RS year and then turn him loose in 2017.
