I have my evaluations on players, and Diaz has his...but, I will say this, he has types and he recruits guys that fit what he wants to do on defense.

If we are going to succeed in the short term, this is the only way its going to happen. Miami can not compete with top schools for the best players right now. It leads to a lot of wasted time and lost spots for good players. So...you've got to evaluate. Trust your system and trust your evaluations.

This is something Miami has not had a lot of success with in recent vintage...evaluating and finding talent. Miami under Coker, Shannon, Golden, and even Richt just kept swinging for the fences on top recruits, saving spots for them, slow playing a lot of lower rated recruits and ended up with nothing. We'll see what Diaz does, but I from what I can see from him through two brief cycles is he refuses to end up with nothing, and that is a BIG LEAP from what we've been doing for over a decade, so I am at least willing to see how his eyetest translates to results.

Even in the 2019 class, we saw Diaz double back on a lot of guys Miami lost track of during Richt's final cycle and we saw him try and dig deep on some late risers. With a full cycle, maybe we dont miss out on DJ Williams, John Dunmore, Maurice Smith, Smith Vilbert, Eugene Asante, Jahmar Brown, OC Brothers, John Dixon.
Those kids would have our depth in a much better place.

Not really, Neal weighs 30LBs more than Ash and is just as athletic. Ash has the wingspan and hand size that you want in a DT, but that should not be a deciding factor, because the film shows that Neal is better.
Neal comp is weaker too tho. Wingspan is big with DL bc if they can’t get to the QB, they can get their hands on a lot more passes. If they’re both the same athletically, then the size is the separation. Ash will be 5-6 inches taller, can carry more good weight, and be more effective in more ways. Ash has to get the advantage.

I get what you are saying, but Neal has performed better against better competition in camps, which should be taken into account and there isn't a 5-6 inches different, it is only a 1.5 inch different in height. That being said, Ash weighs 280LBs, while Neal Weighs 317LBs, that is a 30 LB difference in weight and Neal is just as athletic. If Neal can be 300-290LBs of muscle and not that baby fat he has now he will probably be more athletic than Ash.

Ash is 6’3 right? Neal 5’11. So 4 inches but I’m looking at wingspan. He’s not finished growing, Neal is probably done. But I get what you’re saying and I feel ya. The thing with recruiting tho, the staff is projecting too. Who’s upside is going to be better, Ash seems like the pick.

Neal is 6'0.5 and it is verified. I see what you are coming from as well

Willis had small hands for a DT (don't think his arms were long either) and was our best defensive player. Measurables are great but you can't discount game tape and the stuff you see man on man (games or camps).

I'm not picking a side here bc i haven't watched either guy yet....just making a general statement.

He went undrafted. He was good for us but JJ was our best player. For the last two years. Every situation isn’t the same but it’s still a preference.

He did but we aren’t talking about the NFL. We are talking college where Willis took over games at times. Absolutely you look for certain traits that you can mold, but every once in a while you throw them out for a guy who’s just a ball player and wins without all those god given talents.

Aaron Donald wouldn’t check most boxes for DLine coaches. Ed Oliver is a tweeter for NFL standards but dominated college.

Coach Banda talkes about the importance of wing span and hand size.

In my opinion James Ash has all the physical tools you want in a DT, that being said wasn't his play underwhelming at the Orlando opening for someone that has all the physical attributes. Correct if I'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure he did not perform well at the Opening against top competition. It was this one video where he went up against the same OL 3 times and got his **** handed to him each time; it was probably against a high rated OL, but still it would have been good to at least win one rep.

Definitely a good take. WF has turned it around with Clawson. And they know to evaluate lower rated kids.

Lmao they can do it but when we evaluate lower rated kids and find gems everyone freaks out! Lol
