Jake Heaps teleconference

dont sleep on Olsen...he is competitor first and foremost

What makes you say that? Golden pulled every motivational tactic in the book over the last two years to get him to take things seriously. thus far, none of it has appeared to motivate him.

I'm not taking a jab at you, but am curious why you think he's more of a competitor than any other player. his actions have indicated the opposite.

Competition breeds sucess. I just hope it's one of the young QB's that grab ahold of the job and run with it.

My guess is that as long as Heaps delivers in practice, he will start the season with first team so they can bring on Olsen slowly. Even if Williams is back to practicing in September, we saw what a gimpy QB does to an offense with Morris last year. He'll only get the nod if Heaps flames out and Olsen is thrust into the starting role too soon. Otherwise, he's stuck at backup barring injury. And these coaches will want to RS Kaaya and Rosier if at all possible.

Pulling for Heaps to be the QB that scouts assumed he would be coming out of high school. I love the "you have to earn it" comment. Good stuff.

I went to practices, I went to the Spring game..I saw how he was..in one practice the2nd team ( williams was still #1) the back up center hiked the ball over his head and the team had to run to the opposite side ( about 100 yards and back) he was in that players ear all the way down and back...and helmets came off at one point I think it was Hunter wells...anyway when a receiver missed a route he was on them etc...

I agree on his childish ways...but I think when Williams went down it woke all back ups up..that one minute you better be ready Olsen was not at the time..

Heaps Will Win The Heisman.

You heard it here first. We getting Heisman #3.

I want Olsen to win the job. It would be nice if he plays well earns the starting job and solidifies the qb position for two years. We need that stability and having a solid young qb starting is both good for the program and for recruiting.

For those reasons I hope Olsen wins the job.

And how do you know this?

Just for fun here is my prediction:

1. Heaps will start this year and if he struggles Williams will eventually take over.
2. Olsen transfers eventually....maybe after this year or before next season when he realizes Kayya will beat him out.
3. Kayya will start 2-3 years then declare for the NFL draft
4. Lawson or Rosier will compete to see who will be used as that duel threat qb in certain formations. The winner stays loser transfers.
5. Jack Allison takes the reigns after Kayya departs.

I am probably off on this quite a bit but I think its fun to make these predictions and see how it actually unfolds.

Regardless of what I said...I want the best qb to start....the one that gives us the best opportunity to win games....I could care less who it is.

Go Canes!

I can't make a case against any of that. There is about a 4% chance of all of that happening, but gun to my head that's how I'd draw it up too.

Didn't it take Brock Berlin to transfer to Miami to realize his potential? Don't sleep on this guy. He's a man amongst boys and a couple things swing in his favor

1) He didn't come from a team where he practiced against one of the worst defenses in the nation. He got beat out due to a system that didn't fit him and he's hungry.

2) The reason some of these teams filled with Redshirt Seniors come out so strong is because they have nothing to focus on but football. No studies, no homework, no mandatory study sessions. They can sit their and dissect film all day if they so choose to. Players with less skill than Heaps coming out of high school have succeeded with this.

This guy is married, is a father, super religious (assuming not a party animal)…and most importantly this is his contract year so to speak. This is it for him. I think he takes the starting job and battles Williams (who deserves a chance to compete) once he comes back healthy.

For the people who want Olsen to start, what's your reasoning behind that? It wasn't until Williams went down that he became the guy. Now that we have Heaps (who will give about the same production as Williams imo) why force Olsen into it when he doesn't appear ready?
