Jai Lucas set to become next men’s basketball coach

Someone will hire him, he will win take them to consistently NCAA tournaments, and no one will be talking about some payments he had for a recruit a decade earlier pre NIL

So you’re happy being .500 or a fringe NIT team? Quite a low bar. Cool!
The guy could give 2 ***** about the program. During the 21/22 and 22/23 seasons he was awol. Before that and now he posts constantly.

In fairness, let's stop acting like Coach L was John Wooden. Coach L has one Final Four, 1 Elite 8 and 2 Sweet 16 in his 14 years at Miami.
Miami went to the NCAA tournament 6 times under Coach L with the first trip largely because of Frank Haith recruits.
Coach L tenure looks really good because everyone else was really bad.
Coach L is the below average looking woman in a beauty pageant full of ugly women.
A lot of this "conventional wisdom" you want to use to hire a good mid major coach is promoting a rethread with a proven resume that says he is not what you want.
There are a lot of good X and I coaches but without talent, they become good assistant coaches.
If Jai Lucas is Leonard Hamilton all over again, that is not a bad thing. Hamilton made Coral Gables a destination. Sadly, the previous ADs kept giving the job to coaches who wanted one last check before they retire in South Florida.
What Jai is missing in Xs and Os, he will hire an offensive minded assistant coach along with a former HC to build on what he lacks.
The biggest difference is the guy who is good with Xs and Os cannot match what Jai does on the recruiting trail.
Xs and Os are important but without talent, it will not work!
You're a complete freaking idiot. For 2 years you disappeared, before that when the team struggled and the last 2 years you post constantly. Your solution for attendance issues was to schedule in state opponents like North Florida and FGCU. You suggested that Coach L play AJ Casey and Christian Walker when it was obvious that neither one was good. I don't know who you are but you have no connection to UM or South Florida.

Miami isn't even reaching out. Why make this hire RIGHT NOW? You're telling me that a good coach at a midmajor can't be sold on this job? Randy Bennett isn't interested in making a move into a consistent multibid conference? Ben McCollum has won everywhere he's been, but he wouldn't be interested in Miami? This is how I know a lot of our "Fans" don't pay attention. Then again, the Miami Football/Duke Basketball segment of this fanbase is also the most likely to support this nonsense.
Yea, I’m not a Duke/Miami fan. Outside of Coach L nailing his transfers a few times, this is a pretty bad program. Probably looking at another single digit win year. Probably gonna have turn the entire roster over after dudes portal out. I wouldn’t take this job if I was a rising coach. You think McCollum would take this job over Iowa, considering Fran probably gets canned? Tell me, what does Bennett gain in leaving a solid run program for one in major, major flux? What am I not paying attention to that screams, this is job those guys should take to move their careers forward?

While I hate them, the Gators have hired several head hoops coaches that have won big. They don’t have to hire newbie head coaches…….but, it is a done deal and he is our guy until he’s not.

We don't know who Miami is actually turning away. What makes a top level candidate for one spot does not always makes a top level candidate for another. Coach L was perfect for what Miami needed at the time. Would he have flourished at UNC? Maybe. Or maybe that job requires a different type of coach to succeed.
I try to be as impartial as possible when it comes to the teams I root for. Miami just isn’t a good basketball school. Coach L was perfect at the right time. I doubt he’d have the same measure of success here if he got hired today as opposed to 15 years ago. JMO.

I doubt very seriously we didn’t contact up and rising coaches. But the risk they would take in accepting this job just doesn’t make sense. I would’ve preferred the coach like Coach L myself, but the portal makes it far more difficult to succeed given what this team will probably look like in 6 months. Maybe Lucas gets enough talent he can tread water and build from there. I don’t know. He’s never coached before and that’s vastly more important in CBB than anything. Maybe he’s a good Gameday coach. We just don’t know.

I would’ve Wade personally. But I think his recruiting issues killed his chances. Not basing that on fact. Just my opinion.

I just think Miami looked the other way due to those issues. Not the decision I would make. But I genuinely believe that gave him a scarlet letter for this school.

Another single digit win year? This would be the first since very early in the Leonard days.

As far as who would take the job, well what does the program want to be? If they're committed to being good in basketball you can get a good candidate. Every Miami coach the last 35 years has made the tournament and only Clark didn't win a tournament game. So from hall of famers to also rans Miami is place where you can make the tournament and compete for conference titles.

Should’ve specified, I meant league play.

My broader point is, compare us to jobs that could open this year, IU, UNC, Iowa or Villanova. We just don’t have to sell what they do. Again, I was hoping for Wade. I’m not defending hiring Lucas. Hiring him now, is odd to me. Unless they know something I don’t, possible transfers or recruits coming, it’s weird to hire him rn. I just don’t know how many guys were really interested that would’ve moved the needle.

I might like this hire if Rad wasn’t AD. Everything he’s done so far as AD is basically what I would expect from a telecommuting AD who spends all day sitting around at home in his underwear and actually working about 30 minutes a day.
Not sure about the hire itself but agree with on Rad. Total disappointment

If you actually go through Larranaga’s recruiting classes, they aren’t pretty….
We got a recruiter only for football and he's one Cam Ward staying in the draft decision away from missing a bowl in two of his first three years. Unless you think Poff or Emery was getting us to 6 wins with that defense. But those recruiting and transfer portal classes are pretty. **** he's still a 7-5 coach on average.

Give me an x's and o's guy and developer in basketball every time. We saw at Miami you win and you can get a Bruce Brown and a Lonnie Walker to come because you turned Sheldon, Angel, Kamari with Lawrence and Davon Reed into a sweet sixteen team.

And you were the guy who said after the Final Four that Miami was going to reload and be right back in the Final Four.
Coach L loaded the gun with a bunch of blanks and the program has been in the bottom 4 for the past two seasons.
I told you not to give him that 2 year extension but you get caught up in your emotions and overreact like normal.
Get some therapy and get control of your emotions! 😁 😁 😁
