Sooooo uhhhh they say he’s a good recruiter…. what does his wife look like?Lucas may flop, odds aren’t in his favor. But I’ll reserve judgement until I see his staff. If he can hire a coach with good experience as a top assistant, it will help him tremendously. But let’s not act like Miami is turning away top level candidates.
Well the good news is we’re dead last in the ACC so we can only go up from here (or stay the same), but at least it can’t get much worse lol. I’m choosing to be optimistic about this hire because this season has sucked.
And you were the guy who said after the Final Four that Miami was going to reload and be right back in the Final Four.
Coach L loaded the gun with a bunch of blanks and the program has been in the bottom 4 for the past two seasons.
I told you not to give him that 2 year extension but you get caught up in your emotions and overreact like normal.
Get some therapy and get control of your emotions!![]()

He's not an offensive guy. His Duke bio labels him as their defensive coordinatorLucas is a good recruiter. He won't emulate Duke or UK at Miami, but we can recruit just like we have been and that's plenty good enough.
As a coach, I like that he left Cal and UK as the ship was sinking. Coach K isn't there anymore. Assistants play big roles and he's an offensive guy.
The biggest question for me is roster management. Who the heck knows. That's the best quality for every coach in the NIL world and we just have no idea what to expect with him on that front. I think it's a bold and exciting hire.
Why would one and dones be difficult to recruit to Miami?
And he's doing it all for the first time in the ACC. A conference that is not kind to first year head coaches. You don't have to wait two to three years to know that Miami has decided to ignore conventional wisdom in regards to college basketball hires in hopes of hitting a lottery ticket. The hope is what? That Lucas is such a monster on the trail that his talent acquisition skills that have been bolstered by having legacy logos on his polo are enough to make up for his inexperience running a program?
He's coming to a place with not near the infrastructure that his previous stops had. He will be relied on to be gameday coach, program builder, salesman and culture setter all without ever doing the job before. Lots on his shoulders. Oh and you should win pretty quickly too or the building will be as empty as a new apartment. Another thing he's not accustomed to
Leonard had major conference HC experience before coming to Miami. He’s a Leonard Hamilton hire all over again as those old enough to remember Leonard was an elite recruiter for Kentucky in the 80s before going to Oklahoma State then Miami
We got a recruiter only for football and he's one Cam Ward staying in the draft decision away from missing a bowl in two of his first three years. Unless you think Poff or Emery was getting us to 6 wins with that defense. But those recruiting and transfer portal classes are pretty. **** he's still a 7-5 coach on average.
Give me an x's and o's guy and developer in basketball every time. We saw at Miami you win and you can get a Bruce Brown and a Lonnie Walker to come because you turned Sheldon, Angel, Kamari with Lawrence and Davon Reed into a sweet sixteen team.
His recruiting prowess will tell the story.Wow - Young guy, only 36. Is this a good hire???
Jai Lucas is Miami’s next coach. With all due respect to ESPN, they had no idea this was happening until we reported it.So this is clearly not a done deal. Espn says no offer and no contract.
Where’s Peter or DMoney on this? Did we jump the gun???
And our best teams did dog ****.We made an E8 three years ago and F4 two years ago. We obviously aren’t a blue blood, but let’s not act like we’re Boston College or Nebraska.
Thanks, Pete! I love this hireJai Lucas is Miami’s next coach. With all due respect to ESPN, they had no idea this was happening until we reported it.
