Issues with coach Mike Rumph

What happened yesterday speaks more about the kids, than Rumph. Conventional wisdom says he should have gotten them, but it wasn't a conventional situation. With PS2 this year and Marco last year, he just wasn't as plugged into these Heritage dbs because of who their fathers are....and TC is in the same room with them all the time. Rumph's knowledge/presence was simply a luxury and they probably thought they got all they could from him. Where I fault Rumph and the entire staff, is in not using his relationship to identify early that TC would be a tough pull. You identify that early and then prioritizes guys like Divaad Wilson and Samuels jr. You leave one or two spots open for guys like TC or PS2. if they come great, if not, no worries.

The fact is that you don't need an ace db recruiter in south florida. If you have a good db coach, the position will recruit itself. There are just too many quality db prospects down here. All Rumph has to do is start making a name for himself as a good db coach, the recruiting thing may come with time. And I care more about getting 5* DL and OL then I do 5* dbs. Its nice, but its a luxury. Last I checked, Rumph probably helped us get Nesta and Herbert. Those two will mean a lot more in the long run. We just cant keep F-ing up depth, by not identify real targets early. Kool has really done a much worse(if not **** poor job) than Rumph recruiting. We just lucky with Miller. And unless we are really going to a 4-2-5, Diaz was pretty dumb only taking one linebacker when guys might leave early next year. Our depth issues will be because of incompetence by the staff and no other reason.

How can y’all defend mediocrity? His coaching isn’t elite so what is he good for if he can’t recruit? Y’all need to stop spinning this, Miami needs better than Rumph.

Don’t buy it, those two players didn’t need Rumph to sell them on um, they have all the resources to make an in formed decision. It does not take Steven Hawkings to see what we are doing. They went where they wanted to go. all but one of our dbs will be from south Florida and have something about them. We rollin

This isn't rocket science. Rumph was hired on out of High School. He is a very inexperienced coach. He doesn't know how to close. Take a guy like Hartley, he followed Richt around and learned how to close from other coaches. Rumph is cutting his teeth at Miami. Diaz is not a great recruiter either, so Rumph's learning to close from other guys, primarily our offensive coaches.

This is why I think it's so hard to speak in absolutes regarding a coach's recruiting abilities. We recruit in groups, by area, by position, kid-by-kid, by relationship... there are so many variables and approaches that are unique to every recruit.

That said, I realize that the buck has to stop somewhere, and fair or not, it usually stops at the position coach.

Don't care if he's a young coach still learning how to recruit and close at a major CFB program, this type of garbage is completely inexcusable:

"Rumph indicated there’s nothing he really could have done differently. “All I can say is I know us and the staff worked as hard as we could to get them,” he said Wednesday. “We pushed as hard as we could. The kids aren’t the same as they used to be. The game has totally changed. At the end of the day kids want to go where they think they’ll have the best opportunity to win. And I wish their families all the tremendous best that they go and do some great things. I’m just excited about what we have in our room.”

Never should a UM coach utter such a ridiculous statement after whiffing on two local recruits and contribute to an inferiority complex to other programs.

Rumph basically said they would rather go somewhere established then not. They aren’t built like his generation and are front runners tbh. That seems like his viewpoint on this

How exactly is UM not an "established" program, Broke? The Clemson game made it apparent there is still a talent disparity between UM and CFB's elite, but with Campbell and Surtain, you start closing that gap quickly.

This isn't FIU. At one point last season, this team was the #2 in country and in the playoff hunt for most of the year. Rumph's statement more or less insinuates that Georgia and Alabama are places you can compete for titles at immediately while UM is not. He's attempting to deflect the blame by making a claim that simply isn't true. And if Rumph truly believes UM can't reach that level, he needs to be fired. It's downright embarrassing to have a coach on staff with that type of mentality.

You forget that a lot of south Florida kids are front runners especially broward county kids who have no allegiance to Miami, we haven’t been viewed in the same light by kids as bama for sure and Georgia(richt while he didn’t win a ring they still were known for winning a lot and a annual top 10 program). Meanwhile Miami just won 10 games for the first time since 2004. It’s going to take time to get the sec culture out of Miami but we are definitely making strides. We are the most talked about school in Florida right now and making noise

First time miami has won 10 games in 15 years. Campbell and surtain went to the 2 schools that just played in the championship game. So why do you think they picked them over miami?
