Is the ACC a goner?

FWIW, there is smoke coming out of Charlottesville this afternoon about them moving to the Big Ten.

VT insiders have in the past 48 hours hinted we'll be in another conference within the next two years. That's a signficant change as they've insisted we would stay in the ACC as long as it's viable. These guys don't post things without athletic department approval. Maryland destabilized everything. We've apparently reached out to the Big X, Big 12, and SEC. If the UVA rumor is true we're heading to the SEC.

I do believe Maryland leaving is a bellweather for future trouble for the ACC. Remember, we are moving towards FOUR 16 team super leagues. FSU and Clemson to the Big 12 makes a lot of sense for both parties. The SEC can do better than VT and NCST (raiding the Big 12 again?). The Big 10 is the big prize for Miami. I hope we end up there.

One thing the media still hasn't learned is to never underestimate or sleep on Swofford. hide your wallet when he walks in the room

The payouts to each school in the SEC and Big 10 dwarf the ACC. If those two conferences decide to raid the ACC,, the ACC is gone. As I wrote earlier, I hope its the B1G for us.

I actually think the Big 12 is most vulnerable at 8 teams, if the ACC brings in 2 from there then look for them to try and merge with another conference to survive

Wow, just wow. No wonder everyone says this place is becoming grassy 2.0.

Here's a hint for all of you, expansion has almost nothing to do with on-field performance. Once you figure that out, you'll be better off.

I have no idea where teams will rest come a couple of years but I do buy into the notion of a 4 super conference power made of 16 teams each. Why? I think we are ultimately driving to a playoff system and these super conferences would sit at the head of the table with ND carrying a vote and some smaller tier conference carrying 1-2 teams. Ultimately, a 10-12 team playoff setup is what I envision....

Remember that MONEY drives everything! That's all these Presidents care about. The notion of higher learning for student athletes, specifically football, is the biggest crock of crap thrown out there since The Russians bombed Pearl Harbor! Sorry, couldn't resist....:)

new rumor is that Miami and FSU will leave the ACC and promptly move to London to restart NFL Europe.

Not to pick on you specifically, but we need to take this talk seriously. If two weeks ago, someone would have posted about Maryland and Rutgers leaving for the B1G, that poster would have been laughed off as delusional.

The facts are that we are moving towards the 4 Super Leagues. The ACC is a piece of **** as a football league, and will never be one of the big 4 leagues. The train is moving, and we need to get on it.

FSU, Miami, Clemson, BC, Cuse and Pit are all headed to the big 12 to form their eastern division with WVU and Iowa St. Not really, but it would be interesting.

The big 12 has 10 teams right now. We are clearly moving to 4 16 team conferences, and the most likely conference to fold is the ACC. If UNC and Virginia go, it's over for the ACC.

How does fretting about it on an Internet message board help matters?

WTF happened?! A few weeks ago, with this whole ND crap it looked like we'd definitely be one of the big 4 and now we are fighting to stay together?? No other conference makes sense for us academically or culturally. If everyone jumps ship where the f do we go? I guess it would have to be B1G or BIG 12 but I'm pretty sure we'd still stay with FSU no?

Miami needs to be in the sec. Their fans will fill the stadium. Makes sense geographically obviously as well. Miami would also benefit greatly in recruiting imo.
