Is Guidry coaching Or looking for a new job?

I support Mario, but the hiring and firing process reflects a classic ‘smartest guy in the room’ syndrome. It lacks logic and hasn’t delivered the desired results.

The ‘nice guy’ approach of giving these coaches extra time to find new jobs is frustrating and counterproductive. Timing is everything. You have to wonder how many great coaching opportunities we’ve missed because of this slow approach.

If Guidry returns, a lot of people are going to start looking at Mario sideways. Our miserable season wasn’t just due to a lack of talent, the dysfunction within the staff and the impact on recruiting can’t be ignored. It’s too toxic, imo. Make the move and fix the defense.

Soooo..... now that we have some talent on D.... seriously, give me some good news here, Marv.

Can we at least have a couple of realistic names of folks we're chatting with about replacing the Cajun?

FWIW, I'd love to have the DC from Indiana. Give that guy our D roster and let him cook.

Anyway, what're we hearing about Guidry's replacement?

It's very indicative of a zero-accountability environment. It would seem that Mario isn't feeling internal pressure to meet or exceed expectations.

I can tell you without a shout of a doubt, the players are paying attention. Let’s see what happens.

He ain't going nowhere.

Unfortunately, I think that's true, but why do you think that's true? Why would he wait?
I just don't see him going into the bowl game without a proper defensive coordinator/staff. The bowl game is in 6 days. He has had plenty of time to do it since the end of the season. He isnt going to suddenly let him go 3 days before christmas and less than a week before the game.

I understand everyone’s impatience but ultimately none of us have any idea what is actually happening. Is he being slow? Maybe.

Or maybe he’s targeting someone in the cfp and there’s no reason to have a long vacancy distracting from the bowl game

Or maybe he’s already made a deal with someone but they agree not to announce until after bowl games. Perhaps that person is coaching a bowl game. If so, once again no need for a prolonged vacancy

Or maybe his buyout has a substantial decrease at end is the season, which we haven’t reach yet

You see, there are a million possibilities and everyone speculating is just talking out their ***. None of us have any idea. Just as Miami started their negotiations with Mario before firing Diaz. Mario could be doing the same. Just wait patiently and if spring camp comes and we still didn’t make a move then I’d think you got all the right to complain.

Curious, were you one of the fans praising Guidry last season? Not a dig, real question.

It might be a real question, but it's one of the dangers of "well, you said one thing a year ago, and now you can never change your mind."

I try not to get too high or two low on forming opinions after one year.

Here's the reality. Guidry had a better defense in his first year of 2023, but by no means was it the #1 statistical defense in the country (as Dawson's offense was in 2024). And Guidry had three DBs get drafted from the 2023 team. It is not hard to point out that 2 of those 3 DBs were inherited and 1 was a transfer who was pretty good before he arrived in Miami.

And when you contrast the 2024 defensive performance, when Guidry had more of a chance to recruit his own HS and Portal players, it becomes easier to conclude that whatever "praise" anyone may have given Guidry in 2023 might have been premature and due MORE to the talented players and LESS to the coach.

Do I want to see a Guidry Year 3 simply to confirm these theories? No, I do not. Whatever positive impressions (right or wrong) that were built up in the first year of Guidry may very well have arisen from the benefit of comparison to how poorly our offense played in 2023. But I think that the observations we all made of the 2024 defense are now sufficient to overcome any "praise" that may have arise for Guidry's defense in 2023.

Time to turn the page. No matter what was said in 2023.

It is not just "giving these coaches extra time to find new jobs". We are also waiting on our DC candidate to be available to take the job.

Perhaps we shouldn't be drawing too many conclusions just because Guidry's head is not yet on a spike outside of Hecht.

"If Guidry returns". Hilarious.
