Interesting read about Kevin Olsen

My opinion - I don't think there is any quarterback competition this year. If Olsen was going to be the guy, he had Spring to put in the work and get the job. I think you bring Heaps in and work him out with the 1's so that he can get his timing down with the receivers and center.

I think Kaaya is going to be a great QB at UM, but I don't think you throw him in to the fire as a true freshman. There is too much to learn - line calls, reading coverages, blitz pickups... there is a big difference between college and high school in these areas and I think Kaaya needs a year in practice throwing against Tracy Howard and Deon Bush to really be ready.

I could be wrong. I doubt it tough.

Al Golden is not a difficult man to read. He'll start a less talented guy over a more talented guy if the one with less talent is a hard-working leader who has it between the ears. It's pretty clear that Olsen has disappointed in that area up to now.

I think this year Heaps will be the guy, and next year it will be an open battle between Olsen and Kaaya. That's my opinion.

You're probably right, and if this happens I hope everyone has the excuse machine cranked up for 2 more years as we play 8-4 football.

I wouldn't jump the gun and automatically say we'll be 8-4. I feel pretty good about Heaps. Right now what we need is experience to match our experience. Guy's got the mindset, and the arm/mechanics. If he gets it into the hands of our playmakers without jumping the gun, we'll be in solid shape.

Olsen may not be Coley's guy but the OC is paid to coach up the QB's. Kid has talent and its not like he's accused of rape and stealing seafood. Coley needs to step up his coaching game.

Right, blame the coach when the kid clearly feels entitled. He's been handed everything since daddy was coaching him up in HS, and now it hasn't worn off.

That's one theory as well as Coley hasn't proven himself either.

His mentor mentioned it in the an article that Miami Herald posted, it'll be just like it was in his highschool days for Heaps in that all he has to do is just give the ball to the playmakers and try not to be the man.

He may have Talent but Coley also gets to coach him on a limited basis as well so its also on Olsen to improve himself on his free time too. Blame can go both ways but Olsen not putting in the work shouldn't be on Coley.

I blame the coaching staff on this one... if the kid is not getting it done you know what time it is... give his *** the walking papers...

Olsen is still an immature arrogant dikkhead who thinks he is way too cool to be coached. Olsen has talent but Golden needs to break this kid and apparently that has not happened yet and I find that to be quite disconcerting.

Might be the kids fault, but that doesn't change that he is Golden first real shot at a QB and we sit here with looks like another loser. Al should have one out of his 2nd class but no. Olsen is from his 3rd and no. We are in a heap of trouble my friends. Four years, no QBs and DTs, no good, no good at all.

What happened to the Baby Jesus brigade?

Those azzholes have been silent round these parts since the spring game.

The only ******** around here are those that draw conclusions from a half field, scripted Spring Game featuring a grand total of about 5 plays.

I drew my conclusion well before the Spring Game. The Spring Game was just a reaffirmation. It's self-entitled, immature kids that were the reason for Miami's decline. I dont want another one running the offense.

Plain and simple. Hes in immature rich kid with a matching attitude. He will never figure it out. I say move on. For some reason i have a good feeling about the Heaps guy, and I hope he moves in and takes over. Him and Williams can show Kaaya the ropes and next year he'll be ready to rock.

This is what I think as well.
Olsen never really had to fight for the starting job his entire life until now which by all accounts he wasnt really prepared or desired to do so.
He probably calculated, incorrectly, that with Morris leaving and Williams being a 5th year SR that he'd would eventually be given the job by default in 2015. And seemed quite content with that. He wasn't expecting the starting role to be thrusted upon him so early.
Kudos to Golden for bringing in QB's to ensure competition and that no one gets handed anything without earning it.

Put him fifth on the depth chart. Let him look at four guys - a senior transfer, a perennial backup and two freshman ahead of him and see if he can find motivation.

Too much sunshine in his life.

This certainly seems plausible. If Olsen loses out on the job and Kaaya is pushing for the #2 spot I wouldn't be shocked to see Olsen transfer.

If Heaps plays well anyone else think Ryan Williams sits out and applys for a 6th season of elgibility? Personally I would rather go with Kaaya in 2015, but it's not out of the question for the staff to ask Williams to stick around for another season.

I think a simple call to Greg from Golden saying, "Get you brother to work harder, or else he won't play" should light a fire under his ***.

Isn't Golden capable of sending that message directly?

I think he has already. Hes called him out, suspended him, and now brought in a transfer. Don't know what else would need to be said.

I still think Olsen starts against Louisville.

I truly hope so, but that light needs to turn on and he needs to take command of the job. Olsen has to own the offense and show he understands every facet of what Coley wants to accomplish, from all accounts he hasn't shown that work ethic yet.
