From today's Sports Buzz column. Kind of in line with what D Money and Pete have been saying for months.

"....Though Olsen could still win the job, there were serious concerns internally about automatically handing the position to him in the wake of Ryan Williams’ knee injury.

One UM official, after Williams’ injury during spring ball, admitted he was very worried. Heaps, while erratic throughout his career, is by far the most experienced option for the difficult season opener.

There’s no question about Olsen’s arm and raw talent. But several concerns have been voiced privately. Among them: Olsen needs to be more receptive to coaching, polish his mechanics (which contributed to his dismal 7 for 21 showing in the spring game), stop throwing into double coverage and not force the home-run ball when it’s not there. In other words, don’t be afraid to take what the defense gives him.

He must be studious about film work (he has improved somewhat in that area) and gain a complete grasp of the offense. Olsen was stumped when asked several questions by the offensive coaching staff during a meeting late in spring practice. One UM source said the impression is that he works harder when his brother Greg, the Carolina Panthers tight end, is in town.

UM has been trying to figure out what buttons to push, so that Olsen is motivated to work maniacally, instead of feeling entitled to the job with Williams out. Bringing in Heaps, who has one year of eligibility, solves that issue."

Olsen might end up third string at some point if Williams comes back and kaaya picks up the offense

He should be motivated to win football games, championships and getting to the next level. If those things aren't motivation I don't know what is.

What happened to the Baby Jesus brigade?

Those azzholes have been silent round these parts since the spring game.

I don't like how he answered the questions after 1:11. Doesn't seem very motivated to me.

"Yeah I was in a competition with Ryan, but then the job just sort of fell in my lap."

"Yeah I guess I'll still need to work hard. Watch film and stuff."

When asked what they're going to do this summer, he shrugs and says "I guess I'll try to organize a couple 7 on 7's, however many we think we need. You know."

I think a simple call to Greg from Golden saying, "Get you brother to work harder, or else he won't play" should light a fire under his ***.

My opinion - I don't think there is any quarterback competition this year. If Olsen was going to be the guy, he had Spring to put in the work and get the job. I think you bring Heaps in and work him out with the 1's so that he can get his timing down with the receivers and center.

I think Kaaya is going to be a great QB at UM, but I don't think you throw him in to the fire as a true freshman. There is too much to learn - line calls, reading coverages, blitz pickups... there is a big difference between college and high school in these areas and I think Kaaya needs a year in practice throwing against Tracy Howard and Deon Bush to really be ready.

I could be wrong. I doubt it tough.

Al Golden is not a difficult man to read. He'll start a less talented guy over a more talented guy if the one with less talent is a hard-working leader who has it between the ears. It's pretty clear that Olsen has disappointed in that area up to now.

I think this year Heaps will be the guy, and next year it will be an open battle between Olsen and Kaaya. That's my opinion.

You're probably right, and if this happens I hope everyone has the excuse machine cranked up for 2 more years as we play 8-4 football.

Olsen well finish his career at Rutgers, mark it down. Heaps and Brad will lead this team for the next few years.

A lot of people are writing off a RF QB. There is still a long way to go in this young mans career and hopefully he can start doing the little (and big) things right in order to be successful.

Ideally he would come in be somewhat successful and force Kayaa to redshirt.

Its not the poor mechanics or getting stumped on questions that bother me so much. But hearing reports that he doesn't respect and respond to coaching and he lacks real drive are more concerning...

so lets say no RW for our first game vs Louiv.

1. Olsen starts .. throws a few int's and pull him
2. we put in Heaps... he realizes this is not BYU or Kansas and every time he takes a snap he runs away for 10 yrds and falls down
3. we burn Kaayas shirt put him in and he does ok but withouth any experience and not knowing the playbook/offense too well we lose the game

... as I was typing this in as a joke i just realized there is a high chance this could happen so now I am sad

The only ******** around here are those that draw conclusions from a half field, scripted Spring Game featuring a grand total of about 5 plays.

I'm not ready to write off a redshirt freshman. He has a lot of time to develop and get his head on straight.

I do however just wish that something would go our way for once.

Olsen may not be Coley's guy but the OC is paid to coach up the QB's. Kid has talent and its not like he's accused of rape and stealing seafood. Coley needs to step up his coaching game.
