After getting a handful of legit players in this 2016 class like Sam Bruce, Ahmmon Richards,Dionte Mullins at WR with Homer at RB we have restocked the skill position with playmakers. Jack Allison is nice get although I believe he is passed by N'kosi Perry. On defense we stocked up on LB with 3 legit studs in Shaq, Zach and Pinckney. With Joe Jackson and Pat Bethel along the Def line. Also like Romeo Finley and Malek Young as DB's. This gives Richt a great base of players to build upon some quality talent he inherits that will play alongside his 2016 and 2017 classes. First is Marc Walton at RB and David Njoku at TE/WR, and Lawrence Cager at WR. 2015 saw a huge import of offensive linemen who should enter their prime while the '16 and '17 classes are ready to peak. On defense he doesn't have many pieces left behind that I like aside from Gerald Willis,Jaquan Johnson,Sheldrick Redwine, and Charles Perry.Maybe Demetrius Jackson as well. Now keep in mind this article if focusing on how we can really be legit in 2017. The biggest question mark we need to answer is if Brad Kaaya returns for his senior season. Based on what I saw his sophomore year, he would Need to make a gigantic leap forward this season. I just didn't see top 10 pick from
Him in 2015. And if scouts don't see high 1st round pick from him I believe his family pushes him to finish his senior year.
Here is where our 2017 importance begins. If Kaaya is back I'll do back flips. If he's not, Kosi Perry, Jack Allison and case Weldon will battle it out for the job. I see Kosi Perry winning this job, hands down. This kid is going to be our version of Deshaun Watson-only better. I have scouted 3 full games of his, but all you need to see is his hudle highlights. Simply amazing. He's making throws on the run as a HS Junior that Kaaya can't make right now.Dont believe me? Put the tape on. He throws bombs on the run that drop in a basket of the WR. His pocket prescence is way above average, and he easily eludes pressure and here is where he impresses me the most. He could easily take off running, but he keeps his eyes downfield looking to stick the dagger in you. Can he run and easily pick up those 3rd and 7's and 8's? Absolutely. Matter of fact he's gonna break off plenty of 30-40 yards runs on the regular. He has almost perfected the back shoulder 10-12 yard stick throws. Same goes for the slant route. He puts laser beams with just enough touch to clear the LB's and enough heat to beat the safety. Several plays he scrambles and he's literally being dragged down and he spins out of it and instantly knows where his WR were and delivers strikes. Anyone not aware of this kid needs to watch hudle highlights and remember this is a HS Junior your looking at.
I believe his skill set will lead Richt to get more of our incoming WR talent on the field together.
Cager, Bruce,Richards,Mullins,Njoku,Dingle and Rodney Scott will give us a plethora of weapons. That's without considering our SQUAD17 targets of Jerry Jeudy, Deejay Dallas. If we get Jeudy and Dallas to commit with Dingle and Scott I'll be happy with that group to add to Bruce,Cager,Ahmmon, Mullins, and Njoku. So either Kaaya or Kosi Perry would have some speed and playmakers that puts us squarely in the top 3 passing offenses in nation.
Now on to the ground game and here I want to see Anthony McFarland,Robert Burns, and Darrian Felix. That's my dream team haul for 2017. MCFarland is the type of player Miami has been missing for years. He takes a handoff on the edge-one good block, missed assignment, or tackle and he's gone. He takes a inside zone or delay and the safety misses tackle he's gone. Game changer in one play. That's SEC type speed we need in our backfield. With Burns a jacked up bruiser who's capable of the big play himself, just not to the extent of Anthony McFarland. Then we get to Felix who is another home run hitter, but one so dangerous he can play slot or RB and have him on the field with a 2nd RB. Imagine McFarland, Walton, Homer, Burns, Felix and Yearby if he stays. With those WR? Are you kidding me? That's how quick Richt can turn this thing around.
Now our 2017 defensive commits and targets-first we have Chris Henderson who is Jet speed by himself. At the Safety position is Billy Gibson. Both have great length and speed. In the front 7 we have Jonathan Ford who is highly rated, and Waymon Steed at LB who just won an MVP at an off season camp. These 2 will fit in perfectly with our 2016 class. Now we get to a few targets we need badly. LB wilder needs no introduction on a canes page. We need this guy to commit and start bringing in others with him. The other guy we need badly is Latavious Brini. If we can scoop up these two players, with the guys already on board for 2016, we are set. Even scarier for the rest of the ACC, and for that matter the NCAA, is we have commitments from Gil Frierson and Josh Jobe. How good would a 2017 CB tandem of Henderson and Brini look. With Gil and Jobe both ready to play CB or Safety. This is how scary the Canes can be by 2017-2018. It's not that far away folks. And I didn't even mention the other studs we should pick up between now and signing day for the 2017 class. There will be many names you guys also add to this list and I'd love to hear them. Especially some Def linemen. One last thing-I absolutely love the TE that just committed. Not a lot of highlights on him cause apparently his QB sucked. He's already ranked as a top 10-15 TE in nation. Watch this manchild block.
He completely dominates Texas competition defensive ends and LB's. He seals the edge all by himself on some highlights.Completely washing down the DE and DT, and gets the the 2nd level for LB's also. When thrown to he looks athletic and twitchy and hard to bring down. If he's thrown to more this season expect his ranking to jump significantly. Thanks for letting me ramble. We are not that far away fellow canes fans. Misery is almost over.
