Both of them…absolutely, would have made a big difference, our safeties hurt us more than anything
Ok, last year’s safeties weren’t bad - just undisciplined and not good enough.Williams was a big hitting five star who made plays. Kam was always a ball hawk and had an obvious feel for the game. They were not "bad". Yeah they took too many risks, especially last year, but nobody in their right mind would take this year's safeties over them having seen the season play out. Harris should quit football. Don't even get me started on Meesh. This was the true Achilles heel on this team, and once teams figured out how to exploit it, we were done...because Guidry had no answers.
Gonna search my post history before reacting to this
BingoIf you need an nfl safety to competently run your defense and for the defense to be at least average, then you are the problem.
You mean like he did last year when he got beat for the game winning TD with less than 30 seconds to play? Or JW with his 15-yard penalties?Kam alone would have made a huge difference vs GT & Cuse, who roasted our secondary to no end. This defense was so lost, having him back there would have been a game changer. This doesn't change the fact that Guidry has to go, but the D looked a lot better last year with the better Safeties.
Then Guidry isn’t the problem.
Love the lack of D.GUIRY is definitely the problem. Those 2 would have helped but they made plenty of bonehead plays last year.
With manny it was dIAZ. He had little d(pause) but only against ****** teamsLove the lack of D.
Pause
Or Harris just sucksThe reason our defense sucked is because our safeties were so terrible (mostly Harris). Powell should've been our Nickel, not in the back making calls. The thing about it (i've mentioned it in another thread). Harris isn't a freshman, neither is Markeith Williams. Both of them sat behind JW and Kam last year, both of them learned this defense last year, neither was prepared to take over and start in their 2nd year of the defense after looking up to Kam/JW. That's on their position coach, which, falls directly on Guidry's shoulders. Safety led defense, and he can't prepare or develop the younger dudes after a full year under his tutelage?
could guidry be the problem? absolutely
but everyone on here was *****ing about the offense last year and we got cam ward and damien Martinez and now we have the best offense in the country
need Mario to go ham in the portal on D
Maybe - only because GT seems to have our number here lately. BUT - this teams offense vs last years offense isn’t even marginally comparable.Lot of short term memories. Cam cost us last year against GT. They weren’t a great safety combo, either.
Flagg is forever a Cane due to his play vs Clemson to save the game….perfect example of having good eyes and DOING YOUR JOB - only reason Flagg left is because we had to offer the MLB job to Kiko as part of our recruitment of Francis. Flagg just wasn’t capable of playing OLB and really neither was Kiko, so a tough call was made.100% YES. Even though James play was an issue.
Better question is what if everyone who left early or transferred out (excluding Brashard) came back?
LT went undrafted. DT is still a position of need.
G was an issue for weeks. Javion Cohen went undrafted and currently sits on the Browns practice squad.
Matt Lee got drafted in the 7th round at #237. He hasn't seen game action. Nothing against Carpenter, but give me Lee.
Jahfari Harvey has 7 sacks at SMU this season.
We needed someone on D who at least could get us lined up correctly. Corey Flagg wasn't the best LB, but he could at least do THAT.
If all those guys had come back, we're probably unbeaten and no lower than the 2 seed.
