I want this bowl game

I'm with you.

You'd think we were a sub .500 team the way we are talked about.

The 11 win threshold hold great psychological merit as well and would be a nice building block for the program propelling us into next season.

We were sub-.500 in our final 3 games, the only ones that seem to matter for the CFP Committee.

i was the at the 2017 camping world bowl game (IIRC) in 2017. was happy as ****.

in 2024, we performed at or better than 95% of us expected. our expectations rose when we started winning, but we barely won. i'll be at the Pop Fart bowl game

Bronze medal in Special Olympics.

Ever worked with Special Olympics? You wouldn’t believe how much some of the kids train for the events and they treat the competition as the most important thing ever.

Most of our players don’t bother to show up when a playoff berth is on the line- they don’t have the work ethic of special Olympians.

I used to volunteer as a referee at special Olympics events (bocce) and tried to be a little forgiving wand cut the kids some slack, but I had parents and coaches jump all over me for not being strict with the rules!

You are correct and rightful to call me on it. I recognize my edginess can be a bit much at times and appreciate your (everyone's) grace in my failings (they are numerous).

Those athletes are wonderful hooomans who far exceed me.

My shot at our Miami Hurricanes, disappointing and falling short yet again, was in poor taste regardless if in jest or not.

Good on those true SO athletes and those who support them!

2016.

All games played, are games that should be strived to win.

If you're scheduled to play a game, and there's tickets available to watch the game, lace up your cleats, put your fxkin helmet on, put your headsets on & go win the fxkin game.

It's that simple.

No call out intended. Key point you were making was that there is a lack of effort and desire- and that is 100% accurate.

I want this bowl; I’m old school at heart. It’s called meaningless, but bowl games r still meaningful to a lot of programs, & I do not want to head into the 2025 season losers of 3 of our last 4 games. That sets a bad precedence for next season.

Also, as an aside, imho a lot of these bowls games feel & appear meaningless as well not just due to the emphasis on the CFP b/c there’s always been emphasis even during the BCS era; these bowls games’ names absolutely suck ***!

What happened to the Citrus Bowl, the Copper Bowl, Freedom Bowl, , Sun Bowl, Independence Bowl etc? Now these mugs r the Fenway Bowl, the Duke’s Mayo Bowl, the Pop Tart Bowl, The Gasparilla Bowl (wtf is a Gasparilla), Famous Idaho Potato Bowl…like who in the fck would want to play in these titled games?

Whatever the name, Pop Tart/Tangerine/Blockbuster/CarQuest/Champs Sports etc, I hope this team comes out angry and hate-filled. We have one last opportunity to do something actually meaningful, whether you believe that or not.

We haven't won 11 games since 2003. We haven't won a bowl game since 2016 (back when this was the Russell Athletic bowl). If Cam et al are indeed playing, it's also a chance to prove that maybe, just maybe Miami in the playoffs would have been a more entertaining and dangerous scenario for the college football world.

**** on the Pop Tart all you want (we all have different breakfast preferences) but I'm actually excited to see this team play one more time.
You made me want to run through a freaking wall. Great post.

Then you ended with "we all have different breakfast preferences" and I quit running through the wall and started laughing my *** off. lol

Sports have sold their soul to their corporate marketing overlords. Just part of life nowadays. So, enjoy the Pop Tarts Bowl played at Camping World Stadium and wait till Mario calls his first AT&T time out.

I feel the same way. Though to be fair, the Gasparilla Bowl is only like 15 years old and has been named after things such as Magic Jack, Beef O Brady's, and Bad Boy Mowers, so going to Gasparilla (which is a huge annual pirate-themed festival in Tampa) is a win

@CaneinBroward

I’m fine w/ corporate sponsorship & I get it, but I’m like y can’t it be “Kellogg’s Pop Tart presents The Citrus Bowl?” It seems so simple. When USC sold naming rights to United Airlines; they tried to rename the L.A Coliseum “United Airlines Coliseum”, but it was rejected. The compromise? LA Coliseum keeps its iconic name, but the football field was renamed United Airlines.

Just a total gaff by the bowl committee, & in turn it’s devalued these bowl games even further w/ these goofy names.

Totally agree. It just sucks.

My recollection was they were doing that in the '90's and the Citrus Bowl, Tangerine Bowl, Holiday Bowl, etc. kept their names with a corporate add-on like you said. Then new bowl games began to be added and I think it was the Carquest Bowl that was the first one to solely have a corporate name. My guess is at that point, corporations basically told the smaller bowls if they want their sponsorship, the corporate name needs to be the name of the bowl.

The New Year's Day bowls could split the name between the corporate and traditional name, but all those smaller traditional bowl names just started falling off. Hard to find any nowadays.

Iowa State is annoying as **** to play against. And they match up well against us.

Defensively, they have been running the 33 Stack that I have wanted us to run for some time, because its main job is to limit big plays, push everything to the boundary and force teams to run east-west vs an (optimally) athletic Miami defense (that we are not). Coverage wise, they are either running 3 or Quarters, but can disguise fluently in-between single-high or two-high looks. They do not send more than four too often, but their range of looks and fronts allows defenders to come from anywhere at any given time. The main objective is to protect the intermediate and deep portions of the middle of the field.

The main weapon against it is the setup via either OZ or, even better, running Power/Counter - which means, pulling blockers in all sorts of directions. Arizona State had tremendous success pulling multiple O-Linemen, running split zone and Lead and basically force Iowa State past the ball in order to run behind the missed gaps. This could become a game for Lyle to do work, because his athletic profile is vastly differing from Martinez and Fletcher - he hits holes quicker and accelerates quicker through them. But this will be a physically tough football game for our unit, in particular because we are facing a tough, hardnosed football team that plays above their size. Cam will need to be patient and we need him to consistently hit the small windows Iowa State offers.

Offensively, they run their offense through their top two receivers in Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel - both having 1000+ yard seasons with an unimpressive passer. Higgins may be extra motivated, given that he is from Miami (we all know how that one ends). They move him all around, because he has good short-area quickness with his size at 6´4, but he is not overly explosive or a deep-threat. Catches everything in his range however and finds the right gaps in zone coverage to get open. Noel is 5´11 but as tough as anyone else on the field. Good quickness in the short-area and loves to stiff arm once he gets the football. Is not afraid of being hit and attacks defenders every time he catches the ball.

This will be an annoying one to watch for us. Their defense is good enough to contain our scoring and our big plays and our defense is not good enough to stop their mediocre attack.
