I can’t defend Manny

He wasnt some hoe *** dude who surrounded himself with people he knew were huge reaches so they couldnt question him. He surrounded himself with established football minds.

I get in a lot of ways the school is just cheap and that guides decisions, but how does Blake James still have a job and not catch heat? He has cost the school millions of dollars with his extensions for Golden and they have to realize they lucked out of a massive buyout from Richt’s generosity. ****, even the IPF and money raised from that was largely from Richt’s efforts. Whatever money they may be saving on a coaching staff was chewed up long ago by this boob. It just does not make sense that he somehow flies under the radar. He is like George Costanza falling up.

You and Chise aren’t ADs and you don’t spend your time actually picking apart records and profiling candidates. Golden’s record wasn’t good under scrutiny and he was a very bad fit for UM, its needs and circumstances. He was a terrible hire, IMO. He had no proven success as a Hc. He wasn’t at all an innovative football mind. Losing record at Temple. Arrogant, stubborn, defensive, poor fit for the so fla culture, poor learner. No reason to think he would succeed at UM other than silly projection, imo. tall, looked the part, people wanted to believe.

i started a thread last week on this topic. We keep hiring based on failed theories. The UM connection theory and the CEO theory, both of whiich are premised on it being easy to win at Miami if you just don’t ***** it up. Both wrong to the core.

i have been carping about this topic since coker stunk up the sidelines. It’s not surprising that our fan base is delusional. it should be surpriing that our Admin has been so bad at hiring and managing a program.

And after four straight failed coaches, we hire a guy with no Hc experience, who was a DC on a failed staff, without even running a search at all, because we panicked and he had ‘Miami connections.’

Hiring is hard when you do it right. This program has not done it right in ages. Just absolutely awful managerial decision-making by UM.

the entire college football landscape recruits players from down here and finds plenty of success with them. But, the university is convinced that it's something special that only a certain few individuals and their derivatives can understand.

I dont think we NEED a Miami guy at all personally. What we need is someone who understands what it takes to be elite... our best coaches weren't Miami guys until they just were. I dont think at all that we need to run from our past either. Seems this staff puts so much attention into charades rather than simply getting **** right. Honestly all this nonsense is nowhere near as difficult as we make it out to be. Drop the politics. You can get good staff in place at the budget we have set if you simply do your due diligence. the fact that anyone who knows football has been said manny lacks substance. Hes built on flash(misdirection) this is simply too much for him to comprehend
 
I agree with the criticisms of Manny’s pedigree as a coach. Way too much time spent under mediocre head coaches (Amato, MTSU, Brown and Richt). With only two, non-consecutive seasons spent as a coordinator under a good coach (Mullen).

Manny is going to get another season minimum. Let’s pray these are “growing pains” and not “over our head signs”

All our losses have been close. Team has showed fight and come back to fall short in all 3 losses.

Would be nice to see this team turn a corner at some point and gain more confidence bc we will return almost everyone next year minus Shaq and Pink.

Exactly what I've been saying. It's ******* obvious. ACC coaches have said he was all gimmicks in an anonymous article (My bet is on Bronco saying that).
Even off the field with his recycled speeches. A true politician.

It's very obvious Manny is not the guy. Question is, do you think Flake James survives this and how long do you think Manny gets?

I listen to the vocal former players. And all they talk about is Booch and Beanerdict Arnold and the old Miami guys. They act too much like there’s something unique about this area that can only be tapped by a “Miami guy,” That’s why our candidate list is always full of the same stupid fcking names. It’s the only names these guys know.

If you don’t have a strong AD you’re fcked because he has no clue who to hire. Ask Fake Jimmy to tell you about the up and coming coaches out there. See what he tells you. He is without a doubt clueless and has to rely on other people to tell him who’s who.

Yup. The talk got the fans excited. Heck, after watching half-mast for 3 years, it got me excited. But it was just talk, and should have been a clear red flag. We need a leader with a good football mind. This is a turnaround/build, not a manager/caretaker opportunity. Miami connections aren’t relevant, and at this point, I think are probably a negative - we just don’t evaluate people properly when they have Miami connections. Not saying we couldn’t ... but we haven’t. We end us using those connections as a basis to project myth onto the person, and wind up with a series of wtf hires. Let’s just get it right and start over. Like you said, do the diligence. We’re irrelevant in the worst division in P5 football.

It’s not cheap, it’s stupid. We pay more for our staff than plenty of other programs. But we make crack pipe hiring decisions.
