HS Football alive and well in SFla

Venice is a talented team.

They also beat SFL teams because for the most part the 8A teams down here are huge suburban schools with student bases that don't care much for football. The only 8A team I can think of that's legitimately in the "hood" is Deerfield Beach.

If you look at the other South Florida 8A schools in the playoffs this year....

Western is in rich *** Davie & have to recruit kids from everywhere to play there

Douglas is in filthy rich Parkland & whatever talent they have is probably kids from Palm Beach and Coco Creek/DFB castoffs

Krop was in the weak *** GMAC league for a few years because they were so bad & I think this was their first year back in the FHSAA. The school is located in a weird place, they kinda have talent in their area but any talented kid over there is gonna play for Norland, CC, Hallandale, Miramar, Chaminade or even NMB or Central. When I was in high school they had two 5 star kids that went to Ohio State I think, that was super rare & unheard of for them

Columbus is an all-boys Catholic school, they usually have big chicos in the trenches & have to compete with Gulliver and the public schools for skill position talent, and no one really wants to go there cuz it's all boys lol

Palmetto is in rich *** Pinecrest and has to recruit, and they were weak this year, and will probably be even worse next year. Deerfield is weak this year, Coral Glades is in the middle of nowhere, Boca Raton lol, Wellington is fancy as **** & they probably recruit whatever talent they have from the muck, Palm Beach Central & Gardens used to be elite but idk what happened. Point is, Venice didn't exactly play a murderer's row of competition lol.

This is correct. Most of the 8A schools in south Florida are in the western suburbs and aren’t exactly known for football talent.

Lol what ?? bama and Georgia use the same strategy and it works for them

What strategy are you referring to......recruiting south Florida? Georgia has four (4) kids from south Florida:

Marcus Rosemy - 11 career receptions
Latavious Brini - finally playing as a senior
Kenny McIntosh - 300 yards rushing as a junior
James Cook - 600 yards as a senior

Alabama has seven:

Daniel Wright - 26 tackles
Jacorey Brooks - 5 receptions
Jordan Battle - stud, key player
Thaiu Jones-Bell - 2 receptions
Josh Jobe - 38 tackles
Braylen Ingraham - doesn't play
Kade Wehby - doesn't play

Meanwhile, their rosters and stat sheets are dominated by players from Alabama and Georgia. So can we stop perpetuating the myth that the best teams are relying on south Florida kids? We should be going after the best south Florida kids while recruiting the entire country, not taking 70 south Florida kids. Leave that for FIU.

Alabama has a kid from Pasadena throwing to one player from St Louis and another player from New Jersey while handing off to a player from Tuscaloosa. All of this behind an offensive line that comes from Florida, Alabama, Maryland, Indiana, and Texas. Their tight end is from Utah, kicker is from Alabama.

That's what championship recruiting looks like.

I think that's an accurate assessment overall, however, I wouldn't call Western kids rich. Are there rich kids there, yes, but the majority of rich Davie kids go to private schools. The school is surrounded by trailer parks. I would argue Western is one of the most diverse schools in South Florida. There are rich and poor kids of all races there. Western loses kids to AHP, STA, Chaminade, and Gibbons(just like many other schools).

I know Cypress Bay in Weston used to be one of the better 8A south Florida schools, are they still 8A? Any good now?

Palm Beach Central has gone through some coaching changes. Coral Glades will always have it tough keeping kids there vs Douglas or AHP. Coral Springs could have a good team if the park kids went there.

I dont think Western is all that diverse. Western kids come from money for the most part.

Western and Cooper City demographics arent diverse. in Broward county next to that northern corridor (Douglas/Coral Glades). I highly doubt there is much poor kids if any there. There are some trailer parks near 595 they pull from but thats still a small percentage for them

I mean just look at the public schools in there surrounding area... West Broward, Cooper City, Cypress Bay. There isnt any talent at those schools no matter the huge suburban population. Cypresss Bay only was good when Coach G brought kids from chaminade over and recruited.

I looked into it more, I'm surprised at how wrong I was. Assuming wikipedia is correct, Nova and Flanagan HS demographics are more in line of what I thought Western HS was. Cooper City HS I knew from the band lol, but didn't know Western was similar.

Uh oh, Dillard was a force with bad coaching. These two puts them into a contender for a state title if they have any offense and special teams to match. Dillard was already getting some transfers in there.
But they are like anywhere else

They are going to lose a few kids as well

Western is not a rich school. 🙄
Most of Western's boundary is up and down 595, which consists of apartments and middle class neighborhoods.

There's a few families there with money, but they live in the ducked-off country homes. But I wouldn't call it a "rich school". A rich school is Cypress Bay, Douglas, maybe Cooper City. But the demographic at Western is pretty mixed. There's kids there who live in big country homes on acres, and there's kids who live in trailers and share a bedroom with siblings.

I literally had to feed and clothe Adrienne Talan for 2 years and the kid lived right across the street. Jon Feliciano lived in a trailer with no power or water. As far as demographics are concerned, did y'all forget that James White, Giovanni Bernard, Kevin Austin and Elijah Moore all lived in Western's boundary?

Their boundary goes up and down 595, all the way to University, which is a very transient area. Lots of families moving in and lots of diversity within the last 20 years. Don't believe me, go to Tap 42 in Davie on a Sunday and observe how colorful it is.

I know this is hard for some of you to understand, but it's 2021 now and black people have money. They don't all live on the east side of the county anymore. 😂
595 has bridged that gap.

Naw Western may not be the uber rich but it definately is above middle class...other than the little trailer park area that is stated near 595 areas...its boundary is bordered by Weston, Cooper City, and Plantation. There isnt a hood or tough area anywhere near the school whatso ever.

For example kids from my alma mater would be in for a culture shock going to Western High and they are from HOLLYWOOD.

The newer black money arent moving to Western's district. They are going where they always went which is West Miramar...West Pembroke Pines south of there..Or to "Plantation" lol.

I do agree the area is getting more diverse than 20 years ago when i was in school...but Cooper City hasnt changed much at all...Weston like you stated before has hanged a bit with hispanics.

Western High's best players are recruited and arent from there boundary at all the last few years. There area does get raided by AH AAND PRIVATE SCHOOLS though...but as stated...its because these are above middle class kids anyway. All the kids you namesd above James White, etc are from middle class to above families and all went to Privates. Thats the demographic of majority of Westerns boundary
