How Lucky Was Miami in 2013?

(I think Harry still stop by here every once in a while)

Harry,

Did you break down the scoring differential numbers? I know its supposed to be an aggregate score, but I know these guys were blown out a couple of times last year. You absolutely should not discount those (as those are indicators of preparation versus a "leveled-up" competitor), but you should call those out in your conclusion.

Also, what was the differential in 2012? Does it look similar?

Good stuff. Logical, mathematical.

Some of us already know how lucky we were last year based on numbers, and from watching the games.

Some of us already know that the schedule last year was mighty soft, and this year it's going to be tougher, regardless of the hopefully more developed talent.

Lucky? If anything, we were unlucky as ****. Its hard to win when your best player gets injured for the rest of the season, u play with a hurt QB and PD missing all those games. Im not even gonna mention the defense. This team will be hella better than last years team and the record will show!

Lol at lucky

If that's a lucky season they can have that. I'll take that auburn luck instead

It's apparent you didn't read the article.

From the symptoms you exhibit, you're really frustrated with our coaching staff, but due probably to an incident when dropped on your head as an infant, you have trouble directing your anger in the direction you intend. It's a condition known as "Disassociative Sphinter/Frontal Lobe Inversion Syndrome."

It can take years to reverse this condition, but the first step is to force yourself to lock your mouth until you have more complete information, and lots of time to sort it out. Observation and then emulation of sane, rational, prudent folks will prevent you from coming off like an *** - which is part of the sphinter/frontal lobe inversion problem you suffer.

It should be noted that during this disassociation, you'll suffer limited Tourette Syndrome symptoms when you blow obsecenities out of your mouth at random. There is a Tourette Syndrome Association you can contact for help, although, as you mature this portion of your manifestations should gradually decline.

Good luck.

I believe you may have missed the sarcasm in my post good sir. I was merely beating the super-fan brigade to the inevitable "**** you, fake fan" response and/or post that was coming.

In any case, my apologies.

"Miami finished 3-0 in one-score games in 2013, including one of the luckiest wins I’ve ever witnessed in a cardiac arrest-inducing 21-16 win against Florida. (Thanks, Jeff Driskel!!)"

This is where I dismissed the entire article.

Agree, not sure how forcing TO's=luck. The defense gave a lot of yards but made plays when we needed them to.

Because it appeases the mope squad.

Don't need math to figure out the WF and UNC game took a stroke of luck. Maybe even UF.

At the same time, you could say VT and Duke had some unlucky moments.

Welcome to college football.

Losing your best player who just happens to be one of the most dynamic players in the country is lucky? Morris getting hurt against Savannah St was lucky? Losing Dorsett, who's one of the best deep route runners in the country on a fluke reverse is lucky? Didn't we play Louisville down 4 WRs? The Special teams gaffs in the VT anyone?

If Duke doesn't get hurt we win at least one more, if not two more games. Does that make me feel better about the D, NO!!!!!!!!!!!! But we were hardly lucky.

Wat?

41-14
42-24
48-30
36-9

Which one, or two, of those blow outs would not have happened with Duke in the line-up?

Duke game was tied going into the 4th. Having to rely on Morris to throw the ball 50 times would put any team at a disadvantage.

Rushed for 28 yds on 24 attempts vs VT. Duke went for 100 on 11 carries the year before.

We were down every WR we had in the Lousiville game and rushed for 14 on 28 carries (.5 YPC...yes, that's .5 YPC).

Am I saying we win all of them them? NO! Am I saying AG is a great coach? NO! Am I saying that the defense wasn't atrocious? NO!
But if you don't think having Duke Johnson in the lineup would've made a difference in games you're crazy.

I think the gameplan would have been a little different with Duke Johnson against VT/Duke both...but I think the VT game was just an impossibility and embarrassment of errors that caused that loss...Duke wouldn't have helped that much against them. However, we panicked badly after the run of turnovers against VT, and maybe having Duke would have enabled us to sustain a drive and calm down as a team...and maybe recover enough to pull that one out. Without Duke? We couldn't put together a drive for anything.

As for the Duke game, we were up 17-7 early in that game, and could have likely played a more game-control oriented game offensively with Duke Johnson on the field...eating up some clock to help keep our D off the field...without Duke Johnson? Morris threw the ball 49 times. We got into a shootout with a team that was scoring at will against our D, pretty much. We simply couldn't afford to do that.

When you're a pro-style offense, you're supposed to run to set up the pass. Without Duke, the only thing we could do was pass it, and the playaction deep shots that Morris liked to throw were pretty much gone.
