"How can we compete with Clemson?"

Cool, thx 4 the analysis.

You overcompensating like a mad man today.

38-3 is all I can say right now. And, it could have been much worse if Dabo didn't show us pity by the end of the 2nd quarter.

They’ve had smaller classes so these #’s are skewed. Plus, their head coach is a savage play caller and their D Coordinator is one of the best in the business. They’ve had quality players at all positions w a great D Coordinator.

DMoney hypes us up in the podcasts and feeds our expectations and then comes with this soft ****. DMoney come on man it was a failure and its not like our CB's are the best coached group out there, they dont turn their heads to look for the ball and we have a huge number of defensive breakdowns in the secondary still. Please retire the #watchthefinish hash tag that the mods and insiders here use. 2 years now that we've watched the finish and been left dissapointed.

This.....
What recruiting service are you looking at for that info? Rivals has their 2016 class ranked 6th and 2015 ranked 4th....also a lot of the rankings are based on points and size of class...Clemson has had some small classes but almost every year they get multiple 5 star players.... Based on rivals rankings, 2018 - 5 five stars, 2017 - 3 five stars, 2016 - 3 five stars, 2015 - 3 five stars, etc.. they have stacked a lot of 5 star talent and they recruit extremely well on the DL
Recruiting rankings since Dabo Swinney became head coach:

2009: 36th
2010: 27th
2011: 10th
2012: 20th
2013: 15th
2014: 16th
2015: 9th
2016: 11th
2017: 16th
2018: 7th

Our class is currently ranked 5th, higher than any class in Dabo's career.

Losing the Heritage CBs was a huge failure. This class was a tremendous success.

The size of the class matters because recruits bust so more is always better, it's not like basketball where you sign 3 top guys and you pretty much know what you got.

Their DL and QB recruits are hitting and not busting and that is the key; can credit evals or player development or luck or some combo.

We’re losing 7 DL off last years team that got dusted by Clemson.
How many are we bringing in to fill that void?

No doubt the overall class ranking is nice but it’s more important to analyze this at a micro level.

You look at it the wrong way.

We have had so much attrition that it isn't even funny. There was an article you read I'm sure showing how we lost players at an insane rate.

Class rankings favor large classes. Clemson does a **** good job of keeping players who could've turned pro early. This is evidenced by their small average class size year to year.

You would also have to go all the way back to 2010 to see something between us. Clemson has been ahead of us every year since then in the composite rankings which considers the player rankings from all sites.

It's like this year. We are close again, but I would completely disagree that it's close between us. They just have a much smaller class because they got three guys who would've been early round picks to come back. They will be better defensively because of it, While we're scrambling to replace an already porous defense.

Also - Clemson has 16 kids signed right now.... 5 of them are 5* players, including 2 of the top 3 kids in the nation. 1/3 of their class are 5* players! This post was so intellectually dishonest I feel like I'm watching MSNBC. These dudes are running circles around us AND convincing their best kids to come back on top of it. We will continue to play Clemson in Charlotte and get pummeled.

8 years ago Clemson was saying how can we compete with FSU. Just win games and they will come. Plus it doesn't hurt that Clemson is only competing with Carolina schools. We will always have to compete with UF and FSU which is alot different than USCocks and UNC. It all boils down to winning. Kids these days want the easy route and right now that's Clemson, Bama, and UGA this year. If we closed the season better than we did, We probably wouldn't be having this conversation but it doesn't come over night.

Clemson has recruited the state of Georgia better than Mark Richt has since he got to Miami

Clemson has fancy things like an offensive coordinator that calls plays, defensive coaches that actually recruit their positions, and a coaching staff and university that can convince players to return for their senior years rather than go hope they get drafted in a late round.

I think this makes it even scarier.

We'll need to rely on having way better talent and evaluations because they evidently coach their players above their projected talent.

It's still in question as to whether or not we do that on either side of the ball.

Yep. Gone are the days of out-talenting everyone. Clemson, uga, bama, etc are all already doing it to go alongside good
Coaching. It’s questionable whether or not we even have the coaching in place. We need to hit it out of the park at the qb position

If we have to sign 8 quarterbacks next year to find "The Guy", we need to do it.

We aren't outscheming anyone with Richt at OC and our defense isn't going to be good enough to stop good offensive teams in 2019 or 2020.

We have to find a difference maker at quarterback to change the direction of this program. Richt just isn't good enough. We cannot afford to miss on the next Teddy Bridgewater or Lamar Jackson.

Dabo went out and got Chad Morris and Brent Venables, and had a once in a generation QB.

Let me know when that happens here. Thomas Brown and Diaz LMFAO.

This!

Love our class but when you look at our DL depth, how could you not be concerned?? How do we not address this issue, now and beyond. Poor roster management and I hope it doesn't bite us in the ***.

We'll score 35 but give up 38.

Again, great class and has been one of our greater ones but you also have to look at our positions of need and ask if they were addressed (not just this yr but prior years as well).

Clemsons class is absolutely loaded where it matters. I would take their class anyday. Until we start getting the top Lineman on both sides we wont be back, up front is where you win games.

@dmoney might have to bump your own dline wins championship thread and go look at the trenches for both classes. Keep in mind we lose 7 guys off depth chart and replace with how many blue chip talent..
