"How can we compete with Clemson?"

Recruiting rankings since Dabo Swinney became head coach:

2009: 36th
2010: 27th
2011: 10th
2012: 20th
2013: 15th
2014: 16th
2015: 9th
2016: 11th
2017: 16th
2018: 7th

Our class is currently ranked 5th, higher than any class in Dabo's career.

Losing the Heritage CBs was a huge failure. This class was a tremendous success.

You can't in a right mind think that we got better players. Clearly a lot of their players were underrated and ours were overrated.

It's an excellent class on offense.

It's not an excellent class on defense.

We will end up short on DL, LBs and CBs. That's a problem.

Defense wins championships.

Have you seen their qb rankings? They pulled the #1 qb and #1 overall player. They have a real D coordinator too unlike Diaz who plays soft zone and spots the other 3 tds before he goes to man which works, but by then the d is worn out and cannot stop a mid major team from scoring in the 2nd half.

D Money good point, Its about recruiting/coaching/developing. But striking out on 3 top DB in South Florida is difficult to accept. Clemson is not in the same recruiting hotbed we are in. I demand the 10th coach be a key defensive recruiter, there is no other option.

You forgot to mention the part where those classes are elite in the trenches

I must've missed all those Clemson OL getting drafted.

Do the exercise for their DL. That’s the difference

You are missing the point. The idea that a Top 5-8 class isn't enough to compete with Clemson is absurd. They never signed a class that loaded and they won the championship.

I think this makes it even scarier.

We'll need to rely on having way better talent and evaluations because they evidently coach their players above their projected talent.

It's still in question as to whether or not we do that on either side of the ball.

Come on now stop it. Clemson usually has less players in there class but the players they get are usually studs who either preform like they are suppose to or over preform.

We didn't belong on the same field as Clemson just two months ago. The class they're signing for 2018 is unquestionably better than ours. Five five-star signees. Elite OL/DL recruiting. Meanwhile, we just lost arguably the two most talented players on our board from the high school at which we hired our current CB coach.

The gap just widened even further. There's no spin for this.

Dude stop

They beat us by 30 points just a couple months ago

We have been losing the DB recruiting battle for 5+ yrs.. we will get the elite DB's again.. we got kids that want to ball out for the home team.. it is all about coaching them up.. Jackson is a prime example.. We had our 3 best offensive players out.. and we lack depth.. we have 1 more year of purging left to do.. need a qb to step up and 3 OL to step up.. we can compete with anyone next year.. they might be shoot outs, but we can still win...

D money I respect you but you got those orange and green glasses on too tight per usual. Yes , the O talent is getting very close to natty level , maybe te 19 ol haul does it . But the d talent and depth is nowhere near Clemson or elite. The depth and talent has had a drastic drop of from last year . And that wasn't close. Especially in the front four.

That's just being realistic, D lets his passion constantly fog his grip of reality. I was like that too , as you get old it's easier to be realistic as a fan.

Valid point but Dabo is a younger coach who makes up for his lack of elite recruiting with X’s and O’s. His Offense is extremely effective and creative. His Defense is constantly performing at a high level. Those are traits that concern me about Richt.
