Hoping For a Miraculous Turnaround on D in 2014

We ALL like MSU D right. Just for comparison:

As you look into the path they took to get to a top defense and a top team, I see a lot of similarities with Golden/D'No. Dantonio/Narduzzi were together at Cincy (CUSA) for 3 years, record was 18-17. In those 3 years, avg PA/G: 25.9. Went to MSU together, first 3 years, avg PA/G 25.0, record was 22-17 (2 extra losses thanks from bowls). Sound familiar? MSU PA/G: 2010 (Year 4 at MSU) : 22.3 2011 : 18.4 2012 : 16.3 2013 : 13.2 This is what I hope for (but a little faster than 7 years in) Si o no?

I just hope that they turn the DB's loose this year. They couldn't really do it, because I don't think they trusted Crawford and Artie was just a freshman, while Deon was out with injury. Release the hounds. Let those boys get in the receivers' kitchen.

Same here. Hopefully, push up front can create more pressure, which in turn allows the DB's to be a little more aggressive.

I don't think Narduzzi's defenses were ever as bad as Miami's last 2 years.

smfh. I don't think people are even reading what they write anymore. LOL@ a handful of players out of 75 scholarship athletes are to blame for an inept defense 3 years in...

I don't know if you read carefully what I posted. You basically repeated what I said. I said that there will be improvement next season but this perfection people want. It will take time. These young guns have to learn. Their is certainly more talented players not playing yet. Happens all over the country. They have to be ready. Mentally, physically and god **** emotionally.

I'll say it again. Don't be expecting this team as a whole to be near perfect till the 2015 season. Doesn't mean their won't be improvements next season. But this team needs to be filled from the senior class to freshman. And at this moment going into next season. It's juniors to freshman with a handful, VERY few, seniors that are good or great players. I'll say it again. 2015. Look at Bama, FSU, etc. top to bottom. We are not there yet. Close, but no cigar. Their will be improvement, but don't expect an overnight change. That drastic change to a top 10-20 Defense in nation not coming for another year. Be realistic.

I hear you dude, but nobody is wishing for a perfect defense at this point, we just want one with a pulse. LOL

Like I said, we could improve 40 spots and still suck. LOL

A "bad" Miami defense used to be ranked in the high 20's to low 30's.

Can we just get that? LOL

I'd be happy with that right now.

Agreed. This is why this debate is frustrating. Few people expected perfection out of the team and defense this past season and few expect it this upcoming season. What we expect is for the opposing offense not to break their own offensive records every single time they play us. It's really not unreasonable to have a defense ranked in the 30's or 40's in year 3. It is unreasonable to have a defense ranked in the 90's in year 3.

We are all hoping for a miracle turnaround on D because that's what it will take to make the playoffs. If we aren't top 20 in scoring D we don't have a chance.

From where we were last season to top 20 indeed would be a miracle.

Offense is stacked and will hold up their end of the deal. Special teams as well.

Have to shut Winston down to beat FSU. Have to beat FSU 2 times most likely to make it to the playoffs. Not making the playoffs from now on should be considered a losing season at The U.

UM fans are like the prisoner who hasn't banged a chick in 5 years. Even the most foul box in the world looks like paradise to this dude.

Same thing with these beat down simps masquerading as UM fans. Al has watered their expectations down so much that they're going bonkers over the prospect of reaching top 30 status.

I don't think Narduzzi's defenses were ever as bad as Miami's last 2 years.

Narduzzi first 3 years at MSU avg PA/G : 25.0

D'No first 3 years at UM avg PA/G : 25.8

whats the stats on yardage though?

Not sure about yardage. But if you are going to look at a stat like PA/G for the entire year, it will give you idea of yardage. If you hold teams down on points, the yards should follow. If your PA/G at the end of the year is low, means you have a pretty good D.

The comparison was to illustrate that at times, it takes time for a system to be implemented. The MSU D has been monsters past 2 seasons. The 6th and 7th year into the process. I just hope we dont have to wait that long.
