Holding on Martinez' 60 yard run

The WORST call of the season.

That is not remotely close to an actual hold.

That was literally just a pancake.

Vent about the call all we want, but we were losing the game regardless. The defense had absolutely no clue. We were fortunate enough Syracuse first touchdown on their opening drivers called back on a formation call.

Maybe we score on that drive, but then maybe Syracuse doesn’t fumble their next drive and scores. Evens out.

Yeah, but you can't assume the game would have played out the same particular way it did after that hold was called. 1st & 10 inside the redzone - that's ~4.75 expected points on average. Barring an anamoly we'd have retaken the lead (by 3 or 7 points) with less than half the 3rd quarter remaining. Assume neither team stops the other from scoring a TD after that, we have a chance to win the game (either with a FG or a TD) on our final possession, which wasn't the case the way game played out (needed a TD and a 2pt conversion).

It was tied 28-28 with 7:40 left in the 3rd quarter. Martinez had 5 carries for 45 yards and a TD after the penalty. He had 5 carries for 39 yards before the penalty.
Appreciate it, you would think we were saving him for second half to ride him like most teams were riding their horses this weekend the way we gave lyles the second qtr.. Kind of a shame he only got 5 touches after when it seemed like he was getting lathered up..

Disagree. We go up 35-28 and they're chasing us. Even if we don't stop them again, they don't stop us either, and we win by a TD (or FG).

Yes, I know the defense was horrible, Mario made a questionable (dumb) call to go for a FG, George had a boneheaded play, and Restrepo fumbled, but the "hold" is still bothering me. We probably win if that's not called. Again, it doesn't matter, but I'm trying to think outside of the box on things or people to be upset at since everyone already took the obvious ones.
The review of the hold , drew silence from the announcers , clearly showing there was NO HOLDING on our part .

I agree it would have changed everything.

You never put the game in referees hands, if we didn’t collapse the score would be 38-14 and the bad holding call would’ve been just a fart in the breeze we would’ve scored anyway.

But it is what it is a failure we we’re broken waiting for Cuse to stop themselves for us to have a chance.

They were chasing us from the opening drive and overtook us.

Why would I think they wouldn't have scored next drive to tie at 35?

Doesn't matter. Game is over.

You can offset that with the illegal formation TD taken off the board for Syracuse.

PS: how ******* TERRIBLE was Harris on that play?
Man I'm not a big X's and O's guy but I started focusing on him while we were playing D and even I could tell he was either lined up wrong or missing his assignment. One play that stood out was Meesh trying to get his attention to adjust and he either ignores it or doesn't see him. Then Cuse attacks him directly for a huge gain.

It wasn’t holding. It was a pancake.

Absolutely criminal that our best RB got 10 carries for 84 yards (and would have been 11 for 144 with that phantom holding call taken away), while Fletcher had 13 for 46.

Absolutely f’ing criminal. If I’m Martinez, if I’m not going pro - I’m hitting the portal. Sickening usage this season.
Absolutely agree. Pancake

Martinez only having 10 carries yesterday is crazy. Please next year pick a lead back and let them get the bulk of the carries man

I know it worked out and we scored a TD on the drive but not having #6 on the field for a single play first drive of second half - when we handed off to Fletcher 4 times - was insane. They had scored 21 straight points.

I’m with you. There was a lot we can point to that led to the loss but after the blown lead and all the back and forth, we always maintained an advantage, and they were chasing us on the scoreboard. And here it was midway through the third quarter and this run put us in scoring position. They eventually scored next and we never regained the advantage

Yes. It was also a very important possession. You might want your best running back on field when you call 4 running plays. Currently rewatching this game; not great for my mental health.
