Here's What Concerns Me the Most About 2013

Having a money Kicker is a huge weapon. In recent memory, the Barth brothers of UNC both ****ed us with huge games. There were two of them right?

But once again, if you don't stop anyone on defense it doesn't matter who your kickers are.

My point is that we have SOME options at all of our defensive positions. We have only 1 kicker on scholarship who has never kicked in a college game and couldnt hit the broad side of a barn during the spring. Kickers can negatively change the momentum of a game with quickness. D-tackles, not so much.

That said, I DO share the concerns about our D, but this thread is about the kicking game.

I agree K is a concern, but did you see how pourous our DL was last year, that can impact a game in a big way. Remember the 2nd half against ND when they ran the ball the entire 2nd half.

Pat O'Donnell is probably a better punter than Botts so we've upgraded a little there as Botts was good. O'Donnell can also kickoff and place kick if necessary but Goudis was highly rated out of high school.

Yes, but I am a bit less concerned about it than kicker. Our D line kids are going to be a year older. We have a few kids who I think will be serviceable this year.

Its one of the things I like about coach Golden's staff. Kids seem to improve physically year over year.

So who on the DL steps up? We are still looking at S. Green starting at DE, kid has a ton of heart but couldn't sniff a sack. I love Chicks heart and hussle as well, but he's not going to be that explosive edge rusher we need, maybe that's Bond, but he's coming in as a SLB. McCord was moved to SLB as well. I love AQM's potential but he's a true freshman.

DT will be better if Porter can stay healthy all year, a big if. I think Pierre is going to make a jump, but depth behind those 2 is suspect.

Now at K we have Goudis who is green and nobody really knows what to expect from him. At P we got a big leg in P. O'Donnell so there shouldn't be a huge drop-off.

Lulz @ complaining about the bodies of true freshmen who could still be in HS but they chose to be EEs.

As for the OP, the DL and defensive coaching are bigger concerns for me.

Is there some rule that says fans can't worry about the kicker AND the defense? I think there is room for more than one concern.

To be concerned about the kicking game over the defense is just wrong. You can be concerned about both, but we're not going to accomplish our goals (whatever they are) without a vastly improved defense.

420 is bound and determined to jack my thread. Arrrgh!!!

Can a brotha get away with some hyperbole' in a thread title or what? LOL

All good, fellas. Just trying to get some off-season ANALysis going. :)

In defense of the generic Canes fan, it's been the better part of a decade since they've seen any kind of year over year development, so I can understand their lack of faith.

Color me as one who isn't worried about the kicking game this season. Golden will be on it.

I'm worried about the 1.) defense and 2.) the new coordinator on offense not ******** up what should be a prolific offense.

Not threadjacking, just discussing.

I agreed that it is a concern, just the DL is a bigger one.

Not even trying to break balls or anything.

If it makes you feel better, I'm watching Anthony Bourdain in San Fran right now. Looks like some good **** out there.

I don't worry about the D. Miami runs well to the football. The biggest problem was actually wrapping up missed tackles and blown mental lapse assignments that have nothing to do with physicality. The ONLY game I remember watching where we got physically overmatched on the DL was against ND, and even then not until the second half. Go look at my thread below about the DL improving where I did a play by play actually look at the plays and tell me if I was lying on any of the statements that I made In that thread.

We had more mental lapses than physical. Guys not being in the right spots. Reading the keys to late. Ect. Ect. I can't tell you guys how many times teams snapped the ball before we were even ready. Maybe 8-10 snaps a game!!! I just re-watched every game we played man. Remember when things are bad it's never as bad as you think. When things are good it's never as good as you think. The improvement will come if we stop having mental lapses. We played a great first half on Defense against Notre Dame. Without the mental lapses and Drops we probably win that game.

Offense = No more dropped balls. Duke to improve on his vision will really take us to the next level. Duke had some huge runs.

Defense = No more mental lapses. No missed tackles. Actually wrap up to bring the BC down.

We do those things and this team wins 11 games. Not 10 not 9 at least 11. I expect that to happen. THAT is the Miami standard.

Ya'll trip about Dorito keep in mind he had the #21 ranked defense in 2011. So hop off Coach Doritio's nuts. We were young and got exposed. We are older now and it will show. The D will really stand out in 2014 with all of our seniors, whether Dorito is here or not. I feel we will put a top 50 defense on the field this season.
