L had 5 losing seasons in the last 7 years. I don't think another year or 2 is going to hurt. He's probably the best recruiter and has the acumen of being one of the best developers of guards in the college game. Willing to wait on him to figure it out if that's the return.
 
If we're going to play the long game, Young is a great option. Major East Eoast recruiting ties and the AHC of the best program in the country over the past few years. Could be a Dan Lanning to Oregon-type move.

L also won the ACC in his second year, won 20+ games in 6 of his first 7 years, averaged 23 wins/yr in his first 7 years, and made 2 sweet 16’s in his first 5 years, all of which earned him a lot of support and patience to survive the damage inflicted upon the program by the BS FBI investigation. That was followed by an elite 8 and final 4… unfortunately losing Caputo hurt more than anyone could have predicted.

I’m not opposed to Kimani, but he better be able to schmooze and fundraise because recruiting doesn’t happen without NIL and you have to work HARD for basketball money at Miami. The basketball staff got virtually no support from the AD until 5+ years into L’s tenure.

Recruiting is still important in basketball. Only certain programs get access to the best of the best and Kimani is certainly one of those guys in the know. NIL then makes it happen and come to fruition. Gotta have both.

L absolutely did great from the jump. But clearly he ran out of juice and it hurt the program at the end. Feels like we're 20 years removed from the final 4 run at this point.

Top Basketball coaches make around $5M+

Think Coach L was around $2.5M+

Caputo is making $400k.

If we maintained our current NIL spend on Players and just added the difference in coach salary ($1.5M+) on one of the young up and coming but cheaper coaches who has a fire under him to prove himself and a decent bag to drop to help him, it could work I guess....

Basketball more than any other sport is entirely about the roster talent.

Just not accurate. Miami was not one of those programs until it became one of those programs. And Coach L was not one of those coaches until several years into his time and Miami.

Today NIL paired with a competent staff is an enormous part of that equation.

You think Caputo can get a high major coach’s kid like Autry to GW (chose GW over Maryland and Nebraska) but can’t recruit at Miami with resources? Ok lol.

Caputo is an example but to be clear he’s not even in the conversation unless he finishes with 20+ wins and the upper part of the A10 standings.

I'm not sure what you took from my comment and spun it into that reply. **** no on Caputo. I dont really follow basketball until February anyway but at that point I wouldn't even follow it at all if he was our HC. Caputo is a decent recruiter but he's proven absolutely nothing. I'd rather take a flier on a more high profile assistant than a guy that I've already seen what he is on his own.

Miami is still not one of those programs with recruiting leverage on the top tier guys to this day. We have fought our way into a few of the battles over the years but its mostly a one-off every 3-4 years.... but Kimani Young is already one of those guys with those connections and that level of pull to get Miami into those battles immediately and pair it with a solid NIL and he would probably clean up in recruiting.

His game day coaching and program management? Who knows. Chance you have to take. I'd rather hire a proven winner from a proven program and make it risk free. But that might not be possible. Miami is a disaster right now. If there was no portal, this job would be borderline untouchable by a proven commodity. Significantly worse than even when L took over. Even Haith had 4 straight or 3 out of 4 20 win seasons before he left.

I think they need to take Steve Forbes from Wake Forest at whatever the cost.
 
I think it boils down to is the next head coach the best possible choice. I know that sounds like a silly thing to say but I'd like to see the shortlist
