With all the recruitniks focusing on Cook, Gus the bus hasn't got much attention on this board.

Pad level aside, do you think he can develop into a special player? Or is he more of a rotational workhorse like a Mike James? (Or maybe something else?

Seems like a Mike James clone to me, but that's not all that bad. Good speed, size and moves just not great in any one area.

I´m in the minority here, but with the cuts this guy have(for his size), I can see he developing into a special player. Imo he will do a big jump next season...

Has to get pad level down so he can pound on people early in the game and lower their willingness to get in front of him later. Then his other skills become important. No spinning, lower shoulder and delivery some pain on every carry.

I think Gus has a real chance to be a special back, he has great patience in following his blockers and for a kid his size makes excellent cuts, I am expecting a lot from him moving forward.

Pad level as noted
Learn to drive when being wrapped up, and less finesse
Needs to pick up play book, as he will see time as FB/HB in the scheme
Pass protection will get him on field more
This is an area where Crawford and Clements have big advantage

I am not sure of his hands out of the backfield, but if they are up to par
He can see a Najeh type of workload from the up back, HB/FB combo
8-12 touches a game, goal line and wheel route, screens

Plus athlete for his size. He runs high but there are quite a few successful players that do it (peterson, mcfadden immediately come to mind). Not in any way saying he's them. He's not as physically gifted so it may take for a longer learning curve but I think with a year to improve and better learn the scheme, he can be a contributor next year. Remember, we do have Duke and Crawford so he shouldn't have to be a feature back just yet

I thought he finished strong against Pitt.

The offseason is as big or bigger for him than any other freshman. He gains some muscle, learns new running technique and this boy can be a good, reliable back who sees a lot of carries next year.

I think he will be a good player especially since he is going to have to work his tail off to get minutes with the studs we have coming in. This offseason will be enormous for him and an opportunity to really push himself into freakish shape.

If he learns to consistently lower his pads he's going to be a good one. Kid has good feet and adequate speed for a big back.

I see a guy that will be built like Andre Williams in 4 years. If he stays focused and keeps hitting the weights hard, his body will turn into something freakish.

The last couple of games he looked like he was responding to coaching. Pad level was much better against Pitt. He's **** fast and cuts great for a 230lbs RB.

Agree with you, he looked better finishing runs against Pitt.

he needs more carries - he looks like the kind of back that is more productive on his 20th carry than on his first one
