Guidry - question

I agree but we really should not have to with our talent against our schedule. But you still have to do what you need to to get to the QB.

All it took in the second half was a little pressure on the QB and all his passes started going into the ground.

Yeah not every down but I think our 4 can get enough push themselves, especially with a second or two longer with better coverage.

Uh huh. Well his teams haven't exactly dominated after bye weeks in recent history so I'm not really buying that. If that's such an advantage we should capitalize on it for once.
Did you ever hear anything about sample size. Projecting how we'll do based on a couple of games with completely different talent and circumstances shouldn't tell you anytging about Louisville. Be more worried about their O talent and playcalling. Our O needs to have a mindset that the punter only sees the field in warmups. Better yet, just leave him home

and thats whats bothering me the most right now. I watched a lot of ACC football and in the last 2 weeks were playing the worst defense in the whole conference. Even UNC has improved on D since that James Madison game. FSU been pretty bad too lol Dabo helped out their stats.
I got a chuckle out of "UNC has improved on D since that James Madison game". That's a bar an ant could step over

Seems our best game was Florida, and they are showing some life. We actually gotten worst, starting with tackling.

If we played Florida this week, it would be a whole different game from the first week. Mertz is going 350 yards on 7 passes. Mendoza numbers against us is ridiculous. Cal barely had the ball and had 4 plays for over 50 yards

I hope he plays coverage more, teams are just using our aggression against us.

In the last 3 games in the 2nd half:

USF - 161 yards and 0 points
VT - 140 yards and 7 points
Cal - 160 yards and 10 points

The flip side is the 1st half:
USF - 235 and 15 points
VT - 238 and 24 points
Cal - 215 and 21 points
someone has probably already responded to this post, but personally, this is what gives me faith guidry will find a way to make adjustments during this bye week. Dude is too clever. We shall see. We have to play the cards we were dealt.

I don't know exactly who our better defensive players are - but the problems we had the past couple of games - both opponents had some really quick, fast players coming after our QB.

Some of our toughest opponents - going back to Who-Flung-The-Chunk - were the fast, slippery, smaller ********, versus Big Boys who at best could watch them as they whizzed by.

One might note that other top teams had that problem Saturday.

Coming from an idiot about the game, why not just implement a bend but not break defense between the 20s? Force field goals and let our O work.

The defense has had issues the last 3 games but for different reasons against cal too many blown assignments against V Tech there were ppl in position to make plays but the tackling was abysmal against USF they really struggled for a half but adjusted well.

Also it isn't about zone vs man to me you can use both effectively depending on the opponent. 19 let the tight end run by him on a cover 3 because he bit up.

The run defense was pretty good against Cal it's just something new every week I'm sure it's driving the staff nuts. It's seems to be the same guys having problems tho 25, 7, 0, 19, and 1.

Defensive issues IMO:

- back 7 is slow
- motion seems to cause alignment issues
- tackling is becoming an issue
- any type of misdirection leads to big plays

Some of those are correctable through better coaching/preparation, others through recruiting/portal.

We really need Bain, Barron, and Co to create havoc up front to be successful, especially in the first half.

teams are using misdirection , motion and the quick game to counter the aggressive DL. Which makes our strength useless. As I’ve said to nauseam you have to earn the right to rush the passer , you can’t do it every play. Everyone wants to play for the sack of tfl but refuse to set the edge or have gap integrity. It’s a mess from the front to thr back end.

He’s depending on the blitz way too much now.
I don’t really understand this strategy at all. This DL can get pressure with 4. It feels like an ego thing to show he can scheme up creative blitzes. Let the front 4 do their thing and have more guys in coverage on the back end.

Yeah if a 4 man consisting of Baron Bain Mesidor and Barrow can’t generate pressure most downs alone, we have bigger issues.

The defense doesn’t have to be great. Just play some sound ball and not give up these chunk plays.

If we can handle Brohm in the next game, we can deal with any other OC the ACC..
He will give Guidry a run for his money..
