Great Feldman Article on Beck

Shows how thorough the process was. Speaking with Todd Monken and Brock Purdy’s QB coach about the injury. Dawson evaluated 10 quarterbacks. Liked Gronowski but was scared off my a surgery he is going to have.

It’s interesting to hear how the personnel department tracked dozens of quarterbacks and felt Beck clearly stood out based on the 23 tape. I’m curious those who aren’t fans of Beck would have preferred. Watching the playoffs I don’t see any quarterback better than him.
When Mario wants the word out, you know it’s going to Bruce Feldman

Wasn’t article a reprint from The Atlantic (Manny Navarro)? Heard about it but was unable to access. Helps that Hannah Cavinder is his girlfriend.
It's the same article (the byline is Manny and Feldman); the NY Times bought the Athletic a bit ago and changed it from theathletic.com to nytimes.com/athletic.com so when you paste a link it shows as a NY Times article

I think we all assume this level of detail goes into finding the right qb - but it's undoubtedly refreshing to read about it - especially from Feldman, a UM alum who most certainly is getting the right info

also forgot about Frank Ponce / Emory Williams relationship, I imagine FIU is a great place for Emory in the spring

Also, as we suspected, we did not chase mendoza

it's a results-based business and Mario and Dawson deserve credit because it worked out, but man, had Beck had a change of heart and gone to the draft - not offering mendoza would have been a whiff (one that we probably never would have heard about)

also, this was written by a UM alum who doesn't want to out his college for tampering, but I find it hard to believe that Beck didn't at least talk to us a month ago giving the staff hope that he *might * come which led to them reviewing other options, but holding out and waiting for Beck

Also. Cam being paid $1.6m is the best bargain in the history of bargains. Deserved $40m lmao
kind of crazy, the other rumored QB we wanted last year is going to win a national championship next week

just so thankful that we have a serious program again - not up to what we all hope (yet), but this sure as **** beats the last 22 years or so

I thought the same thing at first, but are they not allowed to talk to players that have graduated (not sure if this matters) and declared for the NFL?

i believe it's in the Feldman article but not entirely sure, someone said Beck arrived on campus with DTrain & someone associated to CanesConnection.
Thanks man, I was being a dyck, i'm pretty sure it's DSmiff, dude still has his hands in the batter.

Mentioned Mendoza as well. Nothing on Mateer
The media are pawns in sports and outside of it. Just like “Banks turned Miami down”. If you think Beck was the only qb they wanted I have some ocean side property for ya. They just circled back here . Coaches use their media and friends in the media to set whatever narrative they want. It’s a very common practice.

Goes without saying. Particularly for "friendly media" like Feldman

I wasnt a fan of his this year. I really thought Miami could beat Georgia because Beck would get over confident and kill a couple of drives himself. That would be the difference. I live in North Georgia watched just about every Georgia game this year. Would have people over regularly to watch the game because half of my family are Georgia fans.

But... But... But...

He was literally the highest rated QB in the portal. I prefered Manteer but if it wasn't him than Beck was clearly the best.

The bottom line is we needed a QB and Mario went out and got the highest rated QB and the top player in the portal.

End of story.

If healthy, Beck is better than any of the playoff QBs. Makes sense to pursue him rather than Mendoza because he’s a one-year bridge to Nickle.

Thought just the opposite. Georgia lacked talent on offense, but assumed our defense would turn them into world beaters and Kirby’s defense would get some stops against our offense.

Feldman is our go to guy in the media to spread our narrative

He has made some amazing throws the last couple of years. I think that if we can't get another elite WR talent and give him time in the pocket he can put up huge numbers. I like having Lyle and Fletcher sharing carrie's because they are different, last year Fletcher and Martinez were too alike. Also Lofton is a wild card that can really be a difference maker.

After seeing what GT did to Georgia I didn't think they could stop us.

I figured we would get pressure and shut down the run and it would all be in Backs hands and his receivers would have enough drops to force him to be superman. I don't think he does well there because he will force throws. He doesn't have to be superman at Miami. We will more protection and more of a balanced offense like UGA did in 2023.
