Al Golden’s tenure has seen great progress — on offense. The offense has improved from 38th in 2010 to 6th this year. For those questioning the accuracy of that stat, this is precisely why I have been screaming about the pace of play all year. When they have the ball, they do an overall great job. They just don’t get it enough. This is also why a defense not forcing three-and-outs becomes a major issue, even if the opponent doesn’t score.
On the other hand, the defense was ranked 13th in 2010, and is now 84th (after finishing 88th last year). The net result? The combined efficiency of the team (which also accounts for special teams) has gone from 23rd in 2010 to 29th now. It has essentially flatlined.
