Goldens "REAL" stats / Eye openers / misc. stuff

I disagree completely. If you changed the DC (someone qualified not just anyone) before this season, I think we're getting ready to play FSU. I think it wouldn't take too long to bring in a new DC and have success. Not 2 full years either. It may take a few games but the right guy has enough to work with NOW to win the Coastal.

let me clarify cus i agree that we are close personnel wise.

I expect this BS defense to have a major impact on recruiting starting RIGHT NOW. any idiot can see that it is TERRIBLE. IF we roll with this same BS defense next year, our recruiting will be abysmal, hence setting the program back a couple of years. 3 maybe was being dramatic

Okay, but look at the kids we have coming in on defense now. For some reason they are staying coImmitted even with the defense we have. It's funny because I am not worried about recruiting under this coach and scheme, I am worried about results and the amount of points we allow.

Too keep it very simple, here is what happened:

1. The NCAA cloud has lifted (finally),

2. The defense has not improved much over 3 years, and

3. We have the best recruiting class under Al in 2014

-----------------------------------------

Recruiting doesn't seem to be an issue now, coaching is an issue. I get that the defense sucks, but....kids seem to be coming in and excited to play for Al and Co. I am just saying that even with Coach D we will still bring in a ton of talent, he just makes it harder because he is terrible. We will lose kids here and there but this is not why it will be devastating. It is devastating because he is not a good coach.

I agree with most of your post, but...
Coaches will continually to negatively recruit against us on our lack of defensive results and schemes/ lack of coaching. Losing a guy "hear and there" is devastating. We need impact DL & LBs in the worst way. So when FSU and UF comes in a grab the "few" that are at our disposal, it's going to get extremely difficult. The margin for error is ridiculously small for UM! Negative recruiting, on the field production, and type of defense (2-gap) we run is the constant battle we face when recruiting high impact front 7 prospects. Eventually we will not be able to sell prospects on past glory and current hopes/dreams. Kids want to see results!

I hear what you are saying but the front 7 we have coming in this year is the best we have had in some time and are beast (on paper). With the NCAA and the terrible defense we have fielded, I have no doubt that coaches are negative recruiting.

IMO, kids don't see what is actually going on. IMO, for the most part kids see what they are told (by their parents, coaches etc.) and that is not necessarily true. Kids are easily manipulated and lied too.

I don't doubt it though if we continue to run this crap defense it will effect recruiting but for the most part their is no indication this has taken place already. In fact, it only got better this year and we're 3 years into this defense.

Agreed. I'll add; Our staff seems tireless and workaholics on the recurring trail and I don't have too many worries outside of the ones I listed previously above. Not Jumping on kids early enough is my only gripe. Bedsides all that--- hopefully we can just shore up this defense soon a produce great results. Then we really won't have to worry about recruiting.

I don't know about the not jumping on kids early enough, but I hear you.

I think that the honeymoon is over as it relates to recruiting. there are no more excuses for the pathetic defense and they will not be able to sell "hope" and "change" starting NOW.

I believe that we will lose a lot of recruits from this class IF we dont have a major shake up on the defensive side of the ball. this is what I believe, but I am also quite certain that it will be **** near impossible to get any recruits next year if we trot out the same BS defense.

You realize signing day is soon? And contact periods and quiet periods will be soon. We are going to keep this class and add a few, maybe lose Turner and Jackson. Next years class will suffer if Donofrio is still employed.

Great stuff by OP. The numbers are mind numbing as to how bad this defense has been under golden.

Now that the cat is out of the bag let's see what golden does.

:ibisroflmao: yea this is the first golden is hearing of this.....

Man you guys are the best

I dont want to hear another word on "we dont have the talent"! Al Golden is great ambassador of UM and solid recruiter, but he severely lacks as a coach. There is nothing that could lead you to believe this guy is "the guy"! He has had awful defenses almost every year in his career. The numbers do not lie folks. Either he realizes his defense does not work and goes in a different direction by hiring a competent DC or AG will eventually fail here. I hope to god something is done because UM deserves better then this dumpsterfire of a defense.

The thing is I'm not sure your chart proves thats.
If anything it shows his system works. He turned Temple into a defense giving up only 316 yard per game which is less than any time Randy was the HC here.

If you want to fault Golden and D'onforio for anything it's being stubborn about changing what they feel will ultimately works. Sure it takes time, as proven with his Temple defensive numbers, but they will not knee jerk or cut corners or change what they do o comform to the players they have. They did that for the first 2 years since they didn't have the personnel or depth to even attempt running a 3-4 scheme but this being their 3rd year and having a somewhat of a fit to begin implementing the 3-4 they did and I think knowing real well they were going to take their lumps.
They basically did the proverbial shove the square peg into round hole for the sake of implementing it for long term
I know this fan base doesn't want to hear this but it's the reality we're dealing with.
Golden knows this and I'm sure he's set expectations with the AD which the AD is on board with. No one is going nowhere.
