Golden WQAM Interview

Whats crazy is that for years now, UM fans did not consider Va Tech to be a big rivalry game. We as fans down play it to the FSU game. Structurally speaking, Va Tech is way more important for the success of the season.

Whats really crazy is that this year, as soon as we beat Va Tech this Saturday night, the Dook game will become the single most important game of the year, for Dook has the head to head over Va Tech and will be tied with UM for the coastal. Crazy.

FSU and Miami should be in the same division. It's BS that we pretty much have to beat them twice in the same season in order to get to the title game. Does Alabama have to beat LSU twice?

****ing ACC

When we first joined the ACC FSU and UM were dominantly better than every other school in the conference. ACC management envisioned a rematch occurring every year, which is why they moved our regular season game to opening weekend for a handful of years. This is the first time we MIGHT meet in the ACC title game after a decade.

Not saying I agree with the structure, just saying I understand the initial thinking. They put the "natural rival" in the other division.

Each conference is doing different things. Look at the PAC 12, they're basically becoming an introverted conference. they will go to a 10 game conference schedule in like 2016, leaving only two OOC games per team. They are trying to keep all of their football revenue in-house. Financially it makes sense but I think it hurts the sport on the whole, which is my concern. It seems that no one is watching out for the good of college football these days.

What needs to happen is we need a north and south division in the ACC.

North: Miami, FSU, Clemson, GA Tech, NC State, North Carolina, Duke

South: Notre Dame, BC, Louisville, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake, Pitt

YOU need a map...

Nah I use GPS.

1. Every school in the "South" is north of the "North"
2. ND is never joining a conference.

Notre Dame is already in the ACC man, oh and I forgot about Syracuse who is in the North.

Al is talking to the fans here. He wants them to know, hey I know it sucks that we lost, but give it time. No one on this team has ever played for anything that big. We are learning how to do that. He also doesn't sound like he believes the talent gap is that wide like some fans like to think. After last year he told the team, "we are not on that level yet, but I wouldn't trade them for you." This year he feels it's the lack of execution and the experience gap that is the biggest difference. I have to agree.

A lot of little things are breaking down. Needed to hug the RB on man-to-man on FSU long screen play. Ball should have been thrown in the dirt.

I watched the replay. Not quite sure who Golden is talking about. We blitzed, rushing 6 on the play while playing cover 1 man on 4 receivers downfield.
The safety was 15-20 yards down-field so I doubt the RB was his responsibility. The only thing I can think is Raphael Kirby may have been assigned to the RB but instead blitzed leaving Freeman wide open??

We blitzed, they called a screen. Just a great call if you ask me.

Yes, but I still don't see Duke winning out even if they beat us. I think UNC will beat Duke in Chapel Hill. Duke has 2 losses already, so if we beat VT, and lose to Duke, I think we'd still have a good shot at winning the division. I'd obviously not want to have to count on Duke losing to UNC and backing into the title game that way.

Bud Foster is going to make life for S. Morris for very difficult sat. night, he better be ready.

Our O-Line has been pretty good at limiting sacks, 8 sacks on the year.

It's not just about giving up sacks. Foster will bring pressure from everywhere. Mo has to see it and deal with it. He can't panic, throw it up for grabs. It'll be important to see how he moves. He doesn't have to scramble for first downs. Although that would be great, physically it just isn't (or hasn't been) happening. Just buy some time. And dump the friggin ball off for Christ-sake. No sacks, throw it in the cheap seats.

Yes, ,but not for the most important sport in college. They will never give up their status as a football indep.

That's exactly what happened. Kirby blitzed because he thought Freeman was in pass pro.

It looked to me like 51 was assigned to the RB or containment and he freelanced and went for the QB instead.

I know we keep saying this...but this is a defining game for the team and staff

odds and history says we lay an egg..get beat and go 2-2 in the last 4....we all know the history

Last week WE ALL knew was tough and we lost....bad in all areas...offense, defense and special teams..

so what will happen ....team steps up, plays hard for Duke and fans after laying an egg or lay down like we are used to for the last 8+ years...

HMM

I say we don't. Mark it down.

Someone missed an assignment.....OLB.

Play a “Hug” Technique
If you are playing a man-under coverage (such as a cover 2, man-underneath), you can deploy your linebackers to “Hug” the running backs that they are responsible for. The term “hug” is essentially a directive to “mug” the running back. By doing this, the linebackers attack the running back, ideally hoping to collision him at the line of scrimmage. They essentially are seeking out and attacking the running back, as if they were coming on a blitz and attempting to get picked-up. The goal is to attract the attention of the running back and then collision him.
By doing this, the back cannot release into his screen route. The timing is thrown off, or, if the ball is thrown, the linebacker is in a position to make a play immediately and deliver a punishing blow on the ball carrier. Think of it as jamming a wide receiver at the line of scrimmage, preventing him from getting into his route.

Good, if it were up to me, kick their *** out of the ACC and let them play Navy every week. I give two ***** about Notre Dame. I honestly forgot they weren't "full members" in football because we're scheduled to play them.

**** Notre Dame.

If we win out, then we have turned the corner...

Lose a game, then we are in the same boat...

We got this we are the 1nd most talented team in the ACC or tied with Clemson so I cant see VT beating us I dont care if Saban was there coach. With there roster they should not beat us, can they play with us maybe but we should outlast them with talent.

could not have said it better myself.

we're 7-1 this year and have won games that we would have given up on in the last few years. i'd say that we've turned the corner and are on the upswing. the fsu loss isn't, and shouldn't be, the barometer to measure our team by.
