Looking at stats of golden former d-lineman and who he is recruiting. I now understand how bad our dt are. Wilkerson in 2 years as a starter had 23 .5 tfl, 16sacks. Nt terrance knighton in 3 had 22.5 tfl, 6sacks. Chris long in 3 had 41 tfl, 21.5sacks and dude had 26 hurries as a soph. Chris canty in 2 had 16 tfl, 6sacks, 15 hurries. So pretty much our guys are strong now but are not disruptive as far as getting in the backfield so he is asking them to eat up space so our lbs can make the play.

I see it know our d-line ****** suck we have to give golden more time to recruit.

Agree.

The personnel isn't there yet. If people think that's excuse-making, fine. But at the end of the day you need guys who can make plays.

We're another recruiting cycle or two away.

I think we'll be better on defense next year with a chance to be elite if a couple guys make a leap, but we should have the cupboard fully stocked by 2015.

I'm concerned about next years line - in particular DT. Losing Porter, Robinson, and Renfrow ... not that those guys are all world type talents, but clearly the best we have other than Pierre. We desperately need either Earl Moore or one of the incoming guys to really step up there next season. I think our pass rush will be better with AQM and Mccord taking another step forward, but the prospects of the interior of the line is kinda scary right now, imo.

But but but.... it's the "scheme" guysm.

It's the "read and react" guys!

Corch "No D" likes to give up yards guysm!

Bend don't break guys!!!!

:rollcanes:

Hey, I'm just clowning on some of the idiots that have shown up to post these last few days. You lose one game and the clowns come out of the woodworks. The OP is dead on right. No scheme defensively is going to look good if your interior line cant stop the run, and if you can't generate a pass rush with your front four. No matter your scheme, any decent offensive coordinator will find a way to pick your *** apart with these weaknesses. Blitzes, stunts, slants, etc can be exposed. Man and zone both have weaknesses that can be exposed.

Frankly, I applaud our coaches for being able to hold it together with such weak talent in the upperclassmen. Our d line talent is just bad right now. Certainly not Miami quality.

Plain and simple, we just need to recruit better on the defensive line, and our "scheme" problems will magically go away.

is earl moore being redshirted? i know coaches spoke well of him last year.

This is the biggest crock of **** thread in some time.

Not really, the biggest crock of **** thread in some time is the one where some dude seriously tries to say that coach D'Onofrio coaches our kids to drop back and stare at the quarterback rather than pick up receivers in zone.

Like any coach in america would do that.

I swear half of you guys are mental midgets.

FSU Dline two-deep

DE - Eddie Goldman, 5 star; Demonte McAllister, 4 star senior
DT - Nile Lawrence-Stample, 3 star; Desmond Hollin, 3-star JUCO
NG - Jernigan, 5 star; Jacobbi McDaniel, 5 star senior, #1 DT recruit in 2009
DE - Mario Edwards, 5 star, #1 DE in 2012; Chris Casher, 5 star

That doesn't even include all of the 5 and 4 star talent at LB and DB. I am not a huge believer in the star system, but at some point, when you have that many highly rated players in the two deep, it's going to pay off.

Serious question...who do we have that would even see the field on that defense? Do you think that Coach D's scheme would work any better with that lineup versus what we're putting out there?

It sucks but we're going to have to wait til 2015 til we see domination. We're improving, but not elite national threat level til then IMO. (I HOPE IM WRONG)

The thing that hurts the most is the waiting.

Ahmad brooks olb/de in 2 years as a starter had 207 tackles, 13sacks, 26 hurries, 20 tfl. He was hurt his jr year. All of these guys are starters in the nfl that i have mentioned. I'm still not a fan of jethro, or the coverages d'onofrio calls.

Watching someone like Wilkerson who golden and dno out in the league shows me what kinda guys they want and will get when they have time to not only recruit but bring them in and develop...

Pull it together, Ernest.

He is an absolute beast, plays hard every play run or pass,

The foundation of our team next year will all be 3rd year guys that Golden brought in.

Duke, Tracy, Deon, Jenkins, McCord, Gunter, Kirby, Flowers, Herb along with some seniors like Chick, Pierre, Dorsett, Scott. Sprinkle in a couple sophomores like Coley, Burns and AQM and I see a good looking roster.

Why do we have to wait two more years again? Because Golden, D'ohno and Jethro have failed to bring in playmakers along the DL. They don't get a pass from me because they can't close on elite DL.

Why do we have to wait 2 more years? Because we have 75 scholarship players right now, a self imposed 10 scholly reduction. Because we've recruited since Al got here under the cloud of the ncaa investigation. I guarantee you we've missed out on countless elite players that we could have landed had that not been the case. I don't think people understand how damaging this has been. Al still whiffed at DT by not bringing in bodies, but the stockpiling of elite talent begins NOW, not 2 or 3 years ago.

I agree..how dare they not recruit elite players under NCAA investigation. Fire them all if we don't go undefeated

Oh, so DL is the only position that was affected by the NCAA investigation?

We didn't seem to have this problem at other positions.

Yep. Add to that a known development plan for the talent brought in, and a program is in serious business long term. Judging talent is an art. The U has been at it's best when we had solid talent evaluators here (using our own star system), with a development path that became a talent magnet in and of itself.

FSU has been enjoying that for a while now, and there's a few reasons they're getting that talent. We're just on the cusp of that stage now, and when we get to the other side of it we'll see admirable DL play.

I think Al & staff has that knack for talent. All this takes time of course, but fans want it now - hence our anguish at times, no?
