Golden still in play at PSU!

I actually think that it's likely he's their #1 guy, but due to sanctions and bureaucratic issues, they couldn't extend him an immediate offer, before his presser today, etc. I think that by week's end, we may be hearing rumblings again. The good thing is that he seems very disaffected and completely sapped of enthusiasm for our program, meaning that the next time a Big Ten job opens up, he may be gone.

Everyone on here is getting ridiculous! Just because a Penn St journalist wrote an article saying he is still in play and now everyone believes it!!! I was once a French Model....

This. And it is very uncharacteristic of him.

Don't hold your breath. We stuck with Golden for atleast 2 more years, unless we go something awful like 4-8 or 5-7 or some ****.

He may suck as a coach, but dude isn't dishonest/sketchy. He wouldn't release a statement if he was going to do the opposite.

That's just not his style. Don't set yourselves up for another meltdown...

if you guys dont' like our admin you would HATE the PSU admin,

those are good ol' boys that are on a very high horse. If Golden pulled out for whatever reason, they will turn their backs on him very quick and actually never offer him again.

These are admins that will walk in to the Onofrios office and tell him to leave and notify the HC via email. Joe Paterno was the only one at PSU athletics that controlled the admin / board.

What he told the press/public and what he told Ped State could be two completely different things. He very easily could have told PUS that he had to make some sort of public statement while they were making their decision and that if they want to hire him he'll jump on the first plane to Crappy Valley.

That weak paragraph about not being a candidate didn't paint him into a corner at all. He could easily leave and not feel like he lied with that limp statement.

u understand that golden pulling this crap would be recruiting suicide for his "next" gig right? no truth only wishful thinking from a psu homer holding out they will get their first choice. Golden may not be a great coach yet. But he is honest and up front. He would not pull this. Espically when no one would fault him for going home. He would have taken a positive situation and made it a negative with dishonesty.

Reminds me of when Ferman "broke" that Gruden was coming here. Then Gruden issued a statement that he wasn't. Many fans (myself included) thought that it was a smoke screen to get more money and kept believing gruden would be our coach up until they hired Al Golden.

I was saying it before that article came out, and I didn't even open that article. Unless they flat out rejected him, then he's still in play. I'm keeping hope alive until someone else signs that deal.

Nah. He's not sketchy at all. Just disappeared for 3 days and went dark. No one had any clue what he was up to and, quite frankly, we still don't.

The chance of him getting the PSU job is slim. But there's something off about his statement and something off about the PSU job in his descriptions on the Joe Rose show and his press conference. Either he was rejected and is down about it, or he just doesn't want to do these media events cause he doesn't want to be here and is hoping the PSU folks offer him some time this week.

Either way don't get your hopes up.

Well hopefully Donna, Blake and the BOT noticed this as well. I'd have no problem with telling Al, "don't make a decision you'll regret because of a press conference scheduled a month ago and/or any guilt towards the recruiting class. If you're heart is in Happy Valley, godspeed to you and your family. We'd love to have you all here but we will survive. Take the next few days if you need them and we will talk again Thursday night."

Team is due back on 1/8. He either needs to be gone by then or re-energized. Otherwise it will pollute the team.

Guy is down because it's a really tough decision. If you've ever loved two women at the same time you know it's hard as **** to let one go for the other. And you always have this feeling of "what if" in your mind. It's easy to say this is the right decision or the wrong decision. But understandably I'm sure Al thought in his mind that he would always coach at Penn State as HC. I'm sure that was his goal when he got into coaching. But the fact is that he just turned down his dream. So of course he's a little out of it today.

This does make sense. However, every time I've had to make a big, life altering decision, there is relief when the decision is made. You move on. You can only choose one path. It doesn't sound to me like he really made a decision. He looks like someone still struggling with it.

Of course he is...because it was yesterday! lol. There is some relief I'm sure. We can agree that making a life altering decision is different than turning down your dream job/scenario because there is that added element.

I'm saying he's struggling with it because he hasn't really made a decision.

Actually that doesn't make sense. If PSU is his dream job then he would have taken it and be all smiles. By analogy, what we have is a guy who is a suitor to a beautiful woman and who thought his dream girl felt about him the way he felt about her only to find out that she is interested but not ready to commit; so he expected to hear yes and what he got was "maybe", and now - for the time being at least - he's stuck with the woman (our program) that he was hoping to leave AND - and this is the kicker - his old lady knows what he was up to. Now that's a man who is stressed.

Since I'm speculating, I'm going to hold out hope that somehow some way Golden and his dream girl get together and soon.
